THE E-A-H E X H G-T O IT E E DVE O C H-Au t. Kvcry Chrutinn Chuieh is. in one 'tense, i ii jily a Hible it is a "atlwriny of the hristians for the purpose of increasing their i •|U.iintanoc with, anil cuiploymeui. v?the ■v'Sage of truth which God has sent to men. i> this end is the pnlpit established and maintained, and a minister of a church is in ii>' nrspect bot the teacher ofhis class. Preaching, however, does not supply one special luathod of instruction, and, in order o secure the best efficiency of the pulpit, it i' necessary that it should be suplonientcd *>v other appliances of a preporatory nature, me ofthe.se, but not all, are furnished by Sunday-schools for the several grades lasses of juveniles; they prepare as in.uds as they are enabled to reach to ,v intelligently such instruction as they . subsequently received in sermon form, advisable, therefore, this preparation 1 be as thorough as possible, and that • . M be given continuously, and without , reference whatever to age or meantaj idition. It will almost invariably be * nnd that the labors of the preacher will ire the most satisfactory results among 5<; of bis hearers who are best prepared •mprehend his explanation and enforce- .if divine truth. Upon those who arc •ily prepared, a large amount of the ' ■ labors arc regularly thrown away, and true quite as much concerning those are already members of the church as of •lieverj. whnle church should be a Hible class | b family a separate knot of students ; : secure the best results, concert of ac- ..m and organized labor is absolutely neces sary. I believe that in a thoroughly organ- zed Christian church every member thereof .'.aid be a member of one of its Bible class- !)f these it is possible that a more ad- .nced class might, with advantage, in many ises, received tuition from the pastor him- •"•!f; but, as a rale, and for various reasons. ' do not consider the pastor the best manr- . i r of a Bible class, or his presence therein -m.ble. He is too apt to be felt as a con- ■iling power, and therefore a species of constraint; and the class, to be sure of its best efficiency, should be a school of iuvesti- ■ation quite as much as of instruction; and . w ministers, inasmuch as they arc very much like other men, are endowed with the iceossary tact to avoid an almost unconscious lietatorship which is sure death to the real rests in view. A pastor can readily su- - ■ i course of Biblical study, and make iter learning thoroughly available, ■ i in any way infringing upon the pro- - of independent inquiry which is essen- u;,i to the permanent succcssof his “prepara tory school.” I think that I have known instances where well-meaning ministers have •..ly instructed i>to:e eiaftes out of exist- ■iice. If possible, the Bible uscii snoulU be • teacher and leader, and should bo made * o suswer all questions which may b.i pro pounded.—Cor. Ex., and Chron CcnHorlonsncHs. There is an uncommon beauty, force and propriety in that caution which our Saviour gives us: “And why beholdcst thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but con- sidcrest not the beam that is in thine own eye; or how wilt thou say to thy brother, .et me pull the mote out of thine eye, •ud behold a beam in thine own eye ? Thou lypocraitc ! first cast the beam out of thine own eye and then shall thou see clearly to "ast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” In which words these four things are ' nly initated: First, that some are much i re quick-sighted to discern the faults and • .r.irhes of others than their own ; can spy mote in another’s eye sooner than u beam " their own. Second that they are often ■ most forward to correct and cure the = of others, who are most unqualified ■-b it office The beam in their own eyes t'ie:ii altogether unfit to pull out the ’• rom their brother’s. The result of his lahcw was a glorious -access for himself and suffering humanity, for the celebrated PLAhTATIOil BITTE23 was thus made known to the world. PLAN TATION BITTZ23 hoinj an article of real merit, founded upon new principles, and relying wholly upon the vegetable world for its medicinal effects, werked a rapid revolu- Ucn in the history of medicine, and became as a household word all over the civilised wor d. The cabalistic S. T.—13S0—Z. was a talisman of health, and the Remand for the PLANTATION BITTEHS seen far cncccded the abilities of the preprietert to supply. Notwithstanding the large impertaticn cf Et. Crcis Hum, made expressly for the com pounding of these Litters, the quantity was inadequate. It therefore became necessary that arrangements upon an extensive scale abroad should at once be made, and an agent was dispatched to St. Thomas for that purpsce. He was fortunate in securing and leasing several plantations on some cf the largest and most productive estates on the island. Housss, stills and presses were erected as if by magic, which utterly “ aston ished the native:.” The services cf experienced men and natives of the island were pro cured, and very soon the proprietors of the PLANTATION EITTEItS were in a position to surely their laboratory with all the perfectly pure St. Croix Bum needed in maaufae- turing thc GSSAT DYSPEPTIC TONIC AND INVIQOSATOE. The above out represents the natives crushing the sugar-cane and otherwise preparing it for the stills and presses. As an antidote to Pevcr and Ague, Intermittent and Malarious Fevers, Dyspepsia, and other kindred diseescs, the use tf the PLANTATION LITTLES is unsurpassed in the history ef the world. Over 2ve million bottles are disposed ef annually. They are adapted to old ai?l young, male and female.
