McGehee, in So. Cultivator.] Boll worms and cotton cater pillars do much damage to the cotton planter, but rust is his great enemy after all. The first two can be fought, and it is prac ticable to make fairly good crops in spite of them. Rust can be fought with an almost unlimited supply of cow and stable manure or ashes. Green cotton seed ou clay land and sand mixed with clay answered well last season, and last year’s corn ground, where heavily sowed with cow peas, and especially where ma nured as well, held it back until late. What causes rust, will probably be a subject for dispute for a good while yet. Drainage has some part in it. Land too wet or draining too rapidly being more disposed to it; excess of rcun has something to do with it also, as it always prevails in rainy seasons when atmospheric conditions are favorable. Some element or elements of plant food being wanting has some thing to do with it also, and if .the i ibove mentioned lures the 'are supplied lavishly they will prevent it for years.
