IN MEMORIAM. (E. L. B., Obit March 29, 1868.) Not with his tond sire in fair Cevlon’e soil, Whose burning sboics the iropio bil lows lave ; Far from bl« native, sunny, sea girt isle. My gentle stranger-friend did find a grave. With one almost maternal o’er tbe qrave He came to live, and met l»t* easlydoam; Nb'sfcitl, however well applied could save That tender loving nature from the tomb . He passed away, and passing, left behind a gloom. Death found him calm and peaceful, Death hath such Peculiar means of taking life away ; All loved bis bright and happy smile so much, That many eyes wept sadly o’er uis q'aij *■%.» a •» > So delicate, so gracious, and So gay, It grieved us all to see him die so young. Fsr from his •mother, near her own bright bay .... ’ i . ' That oft in raptures o’er bis cradle hi:u fcl And with a voice soft, sweet lulluoys hath sung. . In vain her eyes may look tot bis return. No peonon’d bath shgll bear him back again, No welcome song of her’s shall reach his uru, However tender, or how sweet tbe strain. How strange tbe ways of destiny ; how vain Are mortal hopes in this sad world of fears— J' Full half a globe pf seas divide the twain— Death with the one, and with tbe other, tears ; To her for ever lost the hope of future years. Sleep on fair stranger, thou «ilt rest as well In yonder Caledonian churchyard fair. As if entombed in some rich vine.clad dell, Beneath thine own bright skies and . fragrant air. True,’til a matter of small moment where Tbe body lies whether in Earth or Sea, Fondly believing that our souls shall share The glory of their All-wise God, and be With Him, and with His Hosts, throughout Eternity.
