When sufficient intima tion of such a large number of ad vertisements is given, the News will make arrangements to furnish its subscribers with a supplement. The Legislature, On Dec. 7 the bill to abolish the salary of the Lieutenant Governor pas.-ed the Senate, and now only need* the signature of the G< vernor to become a law. Ou the same night a secret cau cus ol the farmers, which was at tended by about tbirty-flve mem bers of the Legis ature, and lasted until a late hour, was held at the Columbia Hotel. In the House a petition was re ceived from ertisens of Darliogtou and Marion Corfu ties prating for the for mation of the new county of Florence. A Bill fixing the salaries of school commissiouers at t‘J00,00 per annum passed the House. A Bill to repeal the lieu law was killed by a vote ol 85 to 27. Most of tbe time of the Senate ou Wednesday was consumed iu tbe discussion of Col. Edwards Bill against free tuitiou in tbe South Carolina College. On Thursday the Bill was again taken up. Col. Edwards spoke in favor of it on Wednesday and twice on Thursday. On tbe latter day tbe Bill passed bnt with such amendments as to seriously affect tbe intention with which it was framed. Tbe annual fee for tuitiou was pi.iced at $40.00, it being understood thst the present matriculation fee ot 910.00 would also be charged. The faculty may grant beneficiary scholarships, without fee*, to de serving youths who give satisfac tory proof ot their inability to pay. Hou. Thos. B. In the House on Wednesday the Bid of Dr. Thomas, of Union, to re dnee the salaries of all the State officers and their clerks, was killed without a division An extremely stringent bill es tablishing prohibition in tbe Conn ties of Auderaou and Laureus pass ed the Senate ou Friday. The bill to reassess property iu Charleston, Colleton, and Berkely on account of tbe iujnry caused bv tbe enrth- J uake was squeezed through the [ouse on Friday, after having one of its m< at important sections (tbe 4tb) stricken out. Mr. Kershaw was the only member ol the Dar ffngton delegation who voted for the retention of this section. The Senate pasacd a bill provid ed that tbe Board of Trustees of the South Carolina College be com irosed of two members from each Congressional District, to be elec ted by the Legislature; also a bill appropirating 112,000 for the furth er development of the Columbia CauaL The House passed with considerable amendments, tbe Till man bill relating to tbe reorganiza lion of tbe Department of Agricul ture.
