See notice of stolen horse in another column. The Courier Journal of Aikeu, comes to us enlarged to au eight page paper, and improved in every way. The Lutheran church has been sur rounded by a neat fence, which adds4 amazingly to the general appearance. A special meeting of the Edisto Ride Club is called for Friday next, 24th inat., at 71 P. M. A full attendance is lequested. Editing a newspaper is like holding an umbrella on a windy day ; every body thinks he can do better than the <one who holds the handle. We omitted in the premium list, a diploma presented to J. E. Adger & Co., for superior plows, and the best ?collection of agricultural implements. Mb. Augustus Fischer got the first premium in the County Fair for best Irqf?ors and -cigars. Who doubts now the superior quality of the articles he offers for sale? Mr. S* R Gaughraan, Agent for the Palmetto .Orphan Horn? will deliver an interesting Lecture on an important subject, in the Baptist church ou Fri day night next. Rev. G. A. Hough, pastor of the Lutheran church, has moved into town and intends soon to open school. We welcome him to his new field, and be speak for him a liberal patronage. Read his notice in another column* ?I % ?i Rev. T. H. Legare, the''Children's Friend," delivered a very interesting tutdress to the Sunday School children in the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon. We were deprived of the pleasure of hearing it, but it was rep resented as being appreciated both by young und old. In addition to the fifty cages of ani inals in tho great Show, arc the five golden Chariots, the massive Tableau Cars of crimson and gold, the mngni ficeitt pony Chariot, the splendid band AVagous, tho golden cars of tho Con querors, all of which can be witnessed in the grand street display, which takes place on Wednesday, December the 2nd, that being the day old John Rob inson's Great Show visits our town. Don't forget the date. It is certainly a compliment to Judge Green that his own County, in which of course he is best known, has given him a most overwhelming majo rity over Chamberlain, in spite ot the fact that in 1870 this county gave over 2500 majority to the regular nominee. It is also said that raauy colored people . ou the turpentine werke iu Orangeburg . County hailing from Surater, who ? knew Judge Green, voted lor him. This speaks well for him. , W. K. Crook as a young merchant deserves a liberal patronage It has been but a short time since he opened on'his own responsibility, and he has already established a reputation which older merchants might envy. Perse verance and fair de tling are his watch words, and with this device he is bound to prosper. He sells groceries, liquors cigars and in fact every thiug at the most reasonable rates. He has done another good thing iu getting Edward Bozard with him. We know Ed, and he is a capital fellow any whero you put him. Moseley & Copes are extending their business as shown by their now occupying two stores instead of one, as heretofore. Mr. Moseley continues in charge of the old stand, corner of Mar ketand Russell streets; while Mr Copes takes charge of the new store, corner Russell and Broughton street's. It is unnecessary for us to say anything in commendation of tho mercantile ability and fairness of theso well known gentlemen. They are true and tried, and our farmers know well where to find them when they visit our Burg. Read their advertisement in another column. Silvano's KntertainrftftilfHUPfi"^ On Monday and. Tuesday evomngs was largely attended by oar moat- res pectable citizens, and gave complete, satisfaction. He seemed to come ?p fully'to every tbing announced, in his advertisements, and evensuipassed tho expectations of most of hia audience, j He proved himself to be perfectly at homo iu his profession, and performed his legerdemain tricks with wonderful dexterity. * It was impossible for the moist bbsery. ing to discover the illusion. The Royal Marionettes excited no small degree of mirth and merriment. One favorable. and noted feature of his performance was the absence of any allusions of an immoral nature. The gifts were as represented numerous and valuable. The leading presents given out were silver watches^ while many others of less value were also distributed. ' Upon the whole the audience was highly entertained, and we pi edict for the Signor a crowded hail during the rest of his stay. Remember there are only two more nights, Thursday and Friday. Church Dedication. U It was our pleasure on Sunday morn ing to enjoy the interesting services of the dedication of the Lutheran church at this place. The seat and commo dious building, which has just been completely renovated, was filled at the appointed hour wkh a large and appro ciative audience. The interior of the house which presented a pleasing ap pearance on account of its freshness and beauty, was also taste (ally deco rated with evergreens and flow era. The dedication services performed by Rev. W. S. Bowman, D. D., of Charleston and Rev. A. G. Hough, the pastor, where peculiarly imposing and interesting; and the whole occasion was enlivened by sweet strains of music from the choir. AX^er these services the dedication sermon was preached by Dr. Bowman and produced a lasting impression upon the spell bound audience. Besides its profundity and eloquence, the address was particularly pleasing on account of Its adaptation to the occasion and its confinement within tho range of the subject. At the close of the sermon an appeal Was made for aid in liquidating the debt on the building, which in view of the sacred cause, wo trust was warmly responded to. The Lutherans here comprise many of our best citizens, and we hope that , the tabernacle which their faith and 1 Christian philanthropy has reared iu our midst may lorg continue a "light to the world" to guide and comfort the erring and troubled on life's weary pilgrimage. . j We were right in our calculation in our last issue as to the County ticket elected. Our onlj error was that we gave Chamberlain too many votes, and Green too few, as the following oilieial report will show: For Golbrnor. * D. H. Chamberlain.8779 JohnT.
