Tho peo ple, by this we mean the voters have it in their power to say whether men shall be elected who favor huge taxes to bo afterwards gobbled up and spec ulated with, or men who will be elected on merit, to do their beat for an econ omical and honest government. At present tho prospect for a change for the bettor looks rather gloomy. The New Depot.?No humbug this time; there is to be a deput, and the company proposes an entire change of flan. The trick will ruii between the freight and passenger depots, giv ing safety and comfort. The depot will be about 85 foot loug and 25 feet wide. There will be a reception room, an agent's office, and telegraph office. Wc suggest a placo for a restaurant, some enterprising vender of cakes and fruit will do well there. Look out this lime for the new depot. That loop hole and railroad spike will be a thing of tho past. The Hog Law.?We congratulate our fellow Citizen?; we make an obedi ent sahiatn to our Mayor aud Council, and we offer to the hog? a cheerful lasting and sincere farewell. Tho hog law is passed and will bo enforced on and after September 15th, and our senses will be no-more shocked with the abominable nuisance of hogs riot ing und marauding over the town. Thi? has nccn an ol<J fight. The press has hit hard blows, but the hogs wcie not seared. The I oard of Health made a presentment to the former council that hint a cold reception. Brickbats, horsewhips, clubs and pistols were used but the hogs were au fait. Now comes an ordinance; Law is supreme when it has no Moses to turn the hogs out of pen, and the pork raisers must look to the fine. There will many a I jolly run for the marshal to catch the first violating grunteron the streets, and a good "catch dog" (Spot) would be a valuable adjunct to the enforce ment of the law. That one eared sow with no tail, that feeds on old shoe soles and shavings stand the best chance of freedom, she can go through a pa ling fenco, and if the dog is on the earless side he cannot hold her.
