Charles Gahagan, assisted by members of the Junior Music Club, presented the annual Christmas program at the December meeting of the Newberry Music Club on Tuesday night in the Commu nity Hall. Mrs. Richard L. Bak er, Mrs. Sydney Carter, and Mr. and Mrs. J. D. French were the host and hostesses for the December twelfth meeting. The president, Mrs. A1 Busby, presided. The Rev. Mr. Gahagan was introduced by Mrs. Clarence Ki- nard, Jr., general program chairman. He served as reader using passages from The Living Bible. Hymns and carols were interspersed at appropriate points in the story. These were sung by a chorus from the jun ior club under the direction of Mrs. Robert Stillwell, and the audience was invited to join them for several of the familiar favorites. C. 29706. of Old.” Everyone joined in singing “0 Come, 0 Come, Em manuel,” “Silent Night,” “Joy to the World”, and “The First Noel.” Accompanists were Deb bie Cromer and Cecil Ringer. Members of the junior cho rus were Mary Ann Davis, Kelly Gordon, Amy Griffin, Renee Ayers, Joyce Fulmer, Cheryl Shealy, Kristie Hawkins, Lucy Gordon, Terry Longshore, Vic kie Mize, and Tammy Richard son. Mrs. Robert Carley, advis er to the junior music club, as sisted Mrs. Stillwell. Mrs. Car- ley announced that the junior club is now a member of the Federation of Music Clubs. During the social hour the host and hostesses served chick en salad sandwiches, cheese wafers, iced cake squares, roasted nuts and mints with hot spiced tea. The beautiful table decorations were in keep ing with the Christmas program and were complemented by the festive surroundings of the Com munity Hall. Civic League is sponsoring scene at. ■■ - Newberry Civic League is pro viding Newberrians with a na tural, rustic, life-size nativity manger scene at Margaret Hunt er Park this Christmas, accord ing to Prof. F. Scott Elliott, Sr., president. Mrs. B. V. Chapman, Civic League manger scene chair man, has arranged the manger scene in three parts. The cen tral portion features a life-size nativity scene of Joseph, Mary, and the baby Jesus. Live farm animals occupy the parts of the manger on each side of the central nativity scene. Corn stalks and hay provide a natural, rustic background for the scene, and an electric star shines above the manger. At night an electric spotlight focuses attention on the nati vity scene itself.
