Voters are reminded that al though all candidates for coun ty offices appear on the coun ty ballot, others should vote only for candidates for county council and school board in their districts. When a straight Democratic or Republican tic ket is voted, election managers will disegard those races that do not apply to that precinct. There has been some confu sion as to the number of va cancies on the Board of Edu cation in District No. 1. Two names appear on the ticket in one section under Democrat and one name under Republi can. There are two seats to be filled in this race. Therefore, two candidates should be voted for in this race. Voters in the following pre cincts will vote for two mem bers to the county board of education District No. 1; all boxes in the City of Newberry, also Airport, Hartford, Long- Lane-Beth Eden, Garmany, Mt. Bethel, Union, Helena, John stone, and Oakland. Precincts in school board Dist. No. 2 are Jalapa, Kinards, Bush River, Vaughnville, Do minick, Chappells, Saluda No. 7, Longshore, Trinity, Silver- street and Utopia. School board District No. 3 includes Prosperity No. 1 and 2, Stoney Hill, 0‘Neal No. 1 and 2, Fairview, Wheeland, Little Mountain, Peak, Pomaria, St. Paul, Jolly Street, St. Phillips, Mulberry, Mt. Pleasant, Wal ton, Midway, Zion, and Cen tral. Citizens safety committee has Oct. meeting The Newberry Citizens Safe ty Committee met on Oct. 26 in the school conference room at 2:30 P.M. Mr. Ralph E. Watkins, chair man, informed the committee that Bill Thomson had resign ed from the committee because he is no longer the representa tive of the Rotary Club Safety Committee. After some discussion on the structure and organization of the committee it was felt that the committee needed to be ex panded and possibly re-orga nized. Mayor C. A. Shealy agreed to discuss the expansion of the committee with the Municipal Association and possibly recruit more members from the county areas. Watkins asked all members present to send any recommen dations and suggestions for ex pansion and re-organization of the committee to Mayor Shealy for consideration. Donald Layton reported three bus accidents: one in the Bush River area, one in the Silver- street area, and one in Pros perity area.
