Scholarships given by ROTC Six Newberry College students were recently awarded AFROTC scholarships by the United States Air Force Scholarship Board. The six are new cadets in the college’s Air Force ROTC detachment. Those receiving scholarships are Gary Griffith, son of Rev. and Mrs. P. B. Griffith, of Pinel las Park, Fla., sophomore; Ed Hood, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Hood of Columbia, S. C., junior; William Renwick, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Ren wick of Newberry, S. C., soph omore; and Ed Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Smith of York, S. C. junior. Howard Woodruff, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Woodruff, Sum merville, S. Kresge award made to college Newberry College has receiv ed $25,000* from the Kresge Foundation for the College’s new Alumni Music Center, Dr. Fredric B. Irvin, president of the College, announced today. Last spring the Kresge Foun dation announced it would a- ward the College a $25,000 grant if the College could guarantee sufficient cash and pledges by Sept. 15, to dedicate the Music Center debt free. When the conditions of the grant were revealed, the College still had an indebtedness of $160,000 on the building. With new money pledged to the Col lege since the beinning of the new fiscal year on July 1, out standing pledges to the Col lege’s Second Century Cam paign, and the Kresge Grant the College is able to meet the con ditions of the grant. The new Alumni Music Center will be formally dedicated dur ing the College’s Homecoming weekend in a brief ceremony at 11:45 a.m., Oct. 28. Garmany enlists in Navy program Mr. Bobby Odell Garmany, 20, of Route 1, Pomaria, re cently enlisted into the U. S. Navy’s CACHE (Delayed En try) Program. Bobby attended Mid-Carolina High School, and is a graduate of A. C. Flora High School, Columbia. The U. S. Navy Recruiting Office in Greenwood obtained a three year Aviation quota for Garmany, and he will report on active duty in February, 1973. He will select between East Coast and West Coast (his duty option) at that time.
