DEATHS of the late William ant Mrs. Bertha Floyd Mrs. Bertha Martin Floyd, 64, of Graniteville, died Friday in an Aiken County hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Posey’s Funeral Home chapel, Granite ville, with the Rev. Franklin D. Hammond officiating. Burial was in the Graniteville Ceme tery. She was born in Newberry County but had lived in Aiken County most of her life and was a retired Graniteville Manufac turing Co. employee. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Graniteville. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Fabius Toole and Mrs. Joyce Owens both of Aiken, and Mrs. Albert Hen dricks, Augusta; her step-moth er, Mrs. Lula Padgett, New berry; three sisters, Mrs. Ver non Fulmer Graniteville, Mrs. Melvin Richardson, Prosperity, and Mrs. Homer Derrick, New berry; and one brother, L. T. Martin, Prosperity. Mrs. Marie Rushton Mrs. Marie Houge Ruston, 80, widow of Arhtur Rushton, died Monday at the J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home after a linger ing illness. Mrs. Rushton was born in Newberry County, the daughter Levister Houge. She was a member of Aveleigh Presbyte rian Church and the Women of the Church. She is survived by one daugh ter, Mrs. Hugh Connelly of New berry; one son, Ernest Waters Rushton of Charleston; two sis ters, Mrs. Ernest “Minnie” Clary of Newberry and Mrs. L. L. “Louise” Cates of West Jefferson, N. C.; two brothers, Lewis Houge of Charleston and Ray Houge of Tampa, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and seven great, great-grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by Dr. Neil Truesdell and the Rev. Johnnie Griffith. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gar dens. Mrs. Deree Abrams Mrs. Deree Bryson Abrams, 65, of Owings, widow of James Warren Abrams, died Tuesday in Columbia. A native of Laurens County, daughter of the late Robert Marion and Sallie Stoddard Bry son, she was a member of Ow ings Presbyterian Church, a gradute of Winthrop College and a retired elementary school teacher in Newberry and Orangeburg counties. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. David Campbell of Colum bia and Mrs. Larry Smith of Peak; a sister, Miss Roberta Bryson of Owings; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Ow ings Presbyterian Church, with burial at 5 p.m. in Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry. Miss Flowers Miss Margaret Thelma Flow ers, 66, of Camden, died Mon day in Kershaw County Memo rial Hospital after a sudden illness. Bom in Hickory, N. C., she was a daughter of the late Mary Tucker and John Nelson Flowers. She was a graduate of Winthrop College. Services were held Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Camden with bu rial in Quaker Cemetery. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Boykin Rhame and Miss Dorothy Flowers of Camden; a niece, Miss Lucinda Ann Rhame of Greensboro, N. C.; and a nephee, John W. Flowers II of Newberry. Mrs. Westwood Mrs. Doris Brandon Westwood 43, of Prosperity, died Sunday morning at the Newberry Coun ty Memorial Hospital. Bom in Union County, she was a daugh ter of the late Hardie S. and Sallie Louella Sligh Brandon. She was a retired cosmetologist and a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Surviving are her husband, Emerson E. Westwood, Jr.; a son, E. E. Westwood III of the home; a daughter, Tammy Westwood, also of the home; a brother, H. S. Brandon Jr. of Woodruff; a sister, Mrs. Cleo Schumpert of Newberry. Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Monday from Mc- Swain Funeral Home with Dr. Henry A. McCullough conduct ing the service. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery. Mrs. DeVega Mrs. Carrie Pool DaVega, 83, of Summerville, widow of Henry M. DaVega, died Saturday in a Summerville hospital. Mrs. DaVega was born in Newberry, a daughter of the late Tench C. and Carrie Jones Pool. She was a graduate of Hollins College in Virginia and taught violin and English at Coker College. Surviving are two sons, Sum ter M. DaVega of Lexington, Ky., and Henry M. DaVega Jr. of Columbia; a daughter, Mrs. Carolina D. Wolfe of Florence; two sisters, Mrs. C. D. Weeks of Newberry and Mrs. Robert Owens of Summerville; a bro ther, Dr. Robert T. Pool of Memphis, Tenn. Graveside services were held Monday at 3 p.m. at Ever green Cemetery in Chester. D. W. McCarthy Dewitt Wilson McCarty, 57, of 614 Rodelsperger St., died early Friday in the Newberry Memo rial Hospital after a lingering illness. Funeral services were con ducted at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by Rev. Hilton Johnson and Rev. Robert Stillwell. Interment was in the Newberry Memorial Gar dens. O. J. Wilson Odell James Wilson, 80, of 1231 Kinard St., husband of Ge- nola Bailey Wilson, died late Thursday after a lingering ill ness. Mr. Wilson was bom in New berry County, the son of the late John W. and Eula Lane Wilson. A retired employee of Southern Bell Telephone Com pany, he was a member of Cen tral Methodist Church, a veteran of World War I, and a mem ber of Telephone Pioneers of America. Besides his wife, he is sur vived by two daughters, Mrs. William J. Vernon of Piedmont and Mrs. Melvin Attaway of Newberry; a brother, Willie Wilson of Ninety Six; a sister, Mrs. V. F. Cook of Newberry, and five grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. John M. Younginer, Jr. and Dr. Voight Taylor of Conway. Interment was in Rose mont Cemetery.
