Holly Jaycees will present 30 lovely young ladies from North and South Carolina in the Miss Textile Pageant on June 2nd and 3rd at the Hunter Huss Auditorium, Gastonia, N. C. at 8:00 P.M. Jan Rader, the reigning Miss Newberry will be one of the fifteen girls participating from South Carolina. Jan will be sponsored by the Newberry Jaycees and Kendall Company. All of this years contestants are current title holders and will compete in State Compe tition this summer. The swimsuit and evening gown competition will be on Friday night and the talent competition on Saturday night. The winner will be crowned by the 1971-72 Miss Textile, May McMiltan. WSOC-TV, Russ Dubuc will be Master of Ceremonies, Di rector and Producer is Sherlie Lone Cannon of Charlotte, N. C. The pageant is sponsored by several National Textile Com panies, and the winner will re present the U.S. Textile Indus : try. The annual Summerland Re union is sponsored by the New berry College Alumni Associa tion. FT. POLK, La. - Army Pri vate Billy J. Duffie, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elton L. Duf fie, 2222 Eleanor St., Newberry, recently completed eight weeks of basic training at the U.S. Army Training Center, Infan try, Ft. Polk, La. He received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, combat tactics, military courtesy, military jus tice, first aid, and Army his tory and traditions. Pvt. Duffie received the training with Company D, 4th Battalion of the 1st Brigade. TO WEST POINT-Cong. W. J. Bryan Dorn presents Rick Holcombe with his certificate of admission to West Point Military Academy. The ceremony was held last Friday morning at Newberry City Hall before a large assemblage of dignitaries and friends of the congress man and Holcombe. Holcombe, son of Col. and Mrs. James H.
