New concept in Army recruiting February 28, 1972 will see the beginning of a different con cept, when the U.S. Army opens the doors of its new Selection Center at Fort Jackson. Based on the British Army’s system, the Center is designed to better a match individuals to jobs available in an effort to produce a more satisfied soldier. The Selection Center experi ment, if successful, may well serve as a model for future centers across the country. The team’s record is 19-9 for the season; 13-2 for NAIA -District 6 competition; and 5-6 for the Carolinas Con ference. The squad will rest until the Conference Tourney begins at Elon College, Elon. Mrs. Lyles was active in the affairs of Ebenezer Lutheran Church and, before making Co lumbia her residence 35 years ago, in Redeemer Lutheran Church, Newberry. She was al so active as a Red Cross Nurs ing Aide. She was a Gold Star Mother, having lost her younger son, Captain J. T. Lyles Jr., a pilot in World War II. Her husband was prominent in the construction field, for many years a member of the firm of Lyles and Lang Construc tion Company. Surviving are a son, William G. Lyles; two grandsons, Ro bert T. Lyles and William G. Lyles Jr-, and five great-grand- childern of Columbia; and a sister, Mrs. Beatrice Simmons of Lexington.
