Wike died Wednesday Henry Tate Wike, 88, of 1218 Jones Street, died Wednesday night at Newberry County Me morial Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Wike was born in Ca tawba County, N. C., son of the late Daniel L. and Alice L. Hewitt Wike. He was a retired employee of Southern Railway, having worked for 56 years as a bridge builder. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Men’s Bible Class and was a Mason, Pomaria Lodge No. 151. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Leona R o v e r t a Seybt Wike; three sons, J. D. Wike of West Columbia, Henry T. Wike Jr. of Portsmouth, Va., and Robert E. Wike of Atlan ta, Ga.; five daughters, Mrs. Flossie W. Wood of Greenville, Mrs. Floy Hancock of New berry, Mrs. Margaret Martin of Charlotte, Mrs. Thelma Lan caster of Pittsfield, Me., and Mrs. Rebecca Hunt of Milton, Fla.; one brother, Carl Wike of Catawba, N. Charles Clinton. Minton Johnson died suddenly Minton Johnson, 56, of 2803 Milne Ave., died suddenly Sun day night at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Johnson was born in Ore- don, Ga., the son of the late J. Samuel and Sara Johnson. He was a retired employee of Kendall Company, Oakland Plant, a veteran of World War II. He attended Hunt Memorial Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nellie Kinard Johnson; two sons, Albert Lewis John son and Steven Lee Johnson, both of Newberry; one brother, Joe Johnson of Newberry; one grandson, Albert L. Johnson Jr. of Newberry. Funeral was conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hunt Memo rial Baptist Church by Rev. R. J. Roberts. Mrs. Griffin dies at age 82 Mrs. Stella Gertrude Mit chell Griffin, 82, died Saturday morning at the J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home after several years of declining health. Mrs. Griffin was born and reared in Lexington County and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Phoebe Alice Wil liams Mitchell. She was a member of the College Street Baptist Church and was a mem ber of the Ladies’ Sunday School Class. Her husband, Loyce O. Griffin, died 26 years ago. Surviving are two sons Ros- coe Griffin and William Dud ley Griffin both of Newberry; five daughters, Mrs. Lawson Harmon, Newberry, Mrs. Del- ma Riddle, Laurens, Mrs. W. B. Allen, Deland, Fla., Mrs. T. C. Gilliam, Bluffton, and Mrs. Curtis Chapman, New berry; two sisters, Mrs. Lonnie Geiger, Newberry and Mrs. George Thompson, Chester; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two step-grand- children and three step-great grandchildren. Funeral was held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday from McSwain Funeral Home with Rev. Dwight Long and Rev. James M. Bruce conducting the service. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery. Mrs. Janie Outz dies at Saluda Mrs. Janie 0. Outz, 87, died Saturday night at the Saluda Nursing Home in Saluda, after an illness of three years. Born and reared in Edgefield County she was the daughter of the late Marion and Mary Emma Parkman Outz. She had spent most of her life in New berry and was formerly employ ed by Newberry Mills, and was a member of O’Neal Street Methodist Church. Her hus band, James Monroe Outz, died a number of years ago. Surviving are six daughters, Miss Belle Outz, Mrs. Ellen Be- denbaugh, Mrs. Mary Chappell, Mrs. Pelham Hamilton and Mrs. Walter Hiller, all of New berry, Mrs. James Brown of Joanna; 21 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. from the McSwain Funeral Home with Rev. Elbert John son, Rev. John Koch and Rev. Ralph Rhyne conducting the service. Interment was in West End Cemetery. Howell survived by Newberry kin John Major Howell, 71, of Laurens, died Saturday. A native of Union County, he was a son of the late Ant- ley and Nancy Nelson Ho Lou Lewis Howell; three sons, O’Neal Howell of Union, Tho mas E. Howell of Newberry, and Roy Howell of Laurens; four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Hill, Mrs. Roberta Hyler and Mrs. Ruth Wicker of Newberry, and Mrs. Mildred Knight of Laurens; four brothers, Char lie Howell of Laurens, George Howell of Clinton, Cager and Horace Howell of Whitmire; three sisters, Mrs. Marie Le wis, Mrs. Lizzie Millwood, and Mrs. Mae Blue of Whitmire; 25 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
