The bride elect will receive an A.B. degree in Elemen tary Education from Newberry College in May. The bridegroom elect is a graduate of Newberry Col lege w r here he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Social Fraternity, and w r as listed in Who’s Who for American Colleges and Universities. Mr. Webber is presently a se cond year student at The Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia. A June 6th wedding is planned in Christ Chapel at the Lutheran Seminary in Columbia. — —— — — —.1 ——— . - —— Miss Boyd is Palmer student Miss Jo Ann Boyd of New berry is among the new students who enrolled this week for the spring quarter at Palmer Col lege at Columbia. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Booker T. Boyd Sr. of Rt. 4, Newberry, and is a 1970 graduate of Gallman High School. Miss Boyd plans to study secretarial science at Palmer. Classes are now underway at the college, with the quarter scheduled to end May 26. Pal mer also has a campus at Charleston and operates off- campus classes in six South Carolina towns. Mr. and Mrs. Alva Setzler (Babe) Harris of Pomaria announce the engagement of their daughter, Donna Pa tricia, and Phillip Clark Shealy, son of Henry Clark Shealy, of Little Mountain and the late Mrs. Marge Phil lips Shealy. The wedding is to be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in St. John’s Lutheran Church. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Pitts Boozer announce the en gagement of their daughter, Miss Karen Dickert Boozer and Arthur Sidney Katz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Katz of St. Paul, Minnesota. The bride-elect will graduate from Lenoir Rhyne Col lege, Hickory, N. C. in May with an A.B. degree in sociol ogy. She is a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. The bridegroom-elect attended the University of Minn esota prior to serving in the U. S. A. F. He is now com pleting his education at the University of South Carolina where he is majoring in Business Administration. A June 26 wedding is planned at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church. Celebrities at “Dixie Week” The reigning Miss America, Phyllis George of Denton, Tex., will make a special appearance at the “Magnolia Beauty Pa geant,” an all-student produc tion at Clemson University March 24. Joining Miss America on stage will be Claudia Turner, the cur rent Miss South Carolina, and Brantlee Price, last year’s state queen who will be mistress of ceremonies. Nine Clemson coeds, repre senting the university’s three sororities, will compete in even ing gown, business suit, and swim suit competition in quest of the “Magnolia Queen” title. Mardi gras 1971 will be sa luted in this year’s pageant theme. The production will be gin at 8 p.m. in Tillman Hall auditorium. The beauty pageant is one of the top events of Clemson’s annual “Dixie Week” celebra tion which is sponsored by Del ta Nu Chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity in cooperation with the three sororities: Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, and Kappa Kappa Gamma. Trophies are awarded through out “Dixie Week” to the win ning sorority in several events. These include field games such as egg toss and three-legged race, and a scavenger hunt. SON VISITS PARENTS ON GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY Clarence Edward Kinard of Portland, Oregon arrived in the city this week for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil E.
