C., Thursday, March 4, 1971—PAGE 5 Patrolman Morris accorded 1 Six Highway Patrolmen who were selected as Patrolman of the Year in their respective patrol districts will be honored at a luncheon by the South Carolina Petroleum Council at 12 Noon, March 2, at the Shera- ton-Columbia Inn. Seven patrolmen were se lected by a high level state committee to represent each of the seven Patrol districts as the Patrolman of the Year. Patrol man M. L. Martin, a native of Calhoun Falls, currently sta tioned at Barnwell in District Seven was selected for the state-at-large and has previous ly been honored by the Council. The six runners-up were as follows: District 1 —Patrolman L. W. Mixson, a native of Hampton, stationed at Aiken. District 2—Patrolman First Class J. N. Mitchell, a native of Anderson, stationed at Abbe ville. District 3—Patrolman First Class H. J. Williams, a native of Seneca, stationed at Ander son. District 4—Patrolman First Class J. A. Morris, Prosperity native, stationed at Chester field. District 5—Sergeant J. C. Gar rison, a native of Pamplico, stationed at Dillion. District &—Patrolman First Class R. H. Vereen, Jr., a na tive of Conway, stationed at Walterboro. At the luncheon Tuesday an award in the form of a plaque will be presented to each of the six patrolmen by Petroleum Council Chairman Frank A. Bauman, Jr., District Manager for Texaco, Incorporated. Patrol Commander P- Frank Thompson will present the pa trolmen to the group gathered at the luncheon after which Council Chairman Bauman will present the awards. The speaker of the occasion will be Chief Highway Com missioner Silas N. Pearman, who will discuss the Highway Department’s safety program with special reference to the law enforcement program. A native of Newberry County, daughter of the late John Yancy and Drucilla Werts Floyd, she was a member of Bailey Me morial Methodist Church. Survivors are two sons, James Burton Reeder of Clinton and Thompson Floyd Reeder of Whitmire; four sisters, Mrs. Adger Dennis, Mrs. Jim Daven port and Mrs. 0. B. Longshore of Newberry and Mrs. W. R. Gatlin of Greenwood; three brothers, Dewey Floyd of New berry, Barney Floyd of Silver- street and Guy Floyd of Ki nards; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Funeral was held Sunday at Clinton. ‘ Lonnie Shealy services today Lonnie Magnus Shealy, 80, of Rt. 1, Little Mountain died Tuesday. Born in Newberry County, son of the late Daniel I. and Mary Addy Shealy, he was a member of Holy Trinity Luthe ran Church, a former council man, a member of Pomana Masonic Lodge No. 151 and a farmer. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Stoudemire Shealy; two sons, Leon M. Shealy of Co lumbia and Robert Shealy of Little Mountain; two daughters, Mrs. Majorie Wicker and Mrs. Evelyn Wicker of Little Moun tain; a brother, Colie M. Shealy of Spartanburg; 10 grandchil dren; and 13 great-grandchil dren. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Holy Tri nity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Total value of permits issued was $4,066. Spec. Wilson gets Air medal VIETNAM — Army Specialist Four Eugene Wilson Jr., whose parents live on Route 3, New berry, recently received the Air Medal near Song Be, Vietnam. Spec. 4 Wilson earned the award for meritorious service while oarticipating in Aerial Flight in support of ground operations in Vietnam. Spec. 4 Wilson has been serv ing as a squad leader with Company A, 1st Battalion, 8th Calvary of the 1st Calvary Di vision (Airmobile )„ He enter ed the Army in January 1970, completed basic training at Ft. Jackson, S.C. and was last sta tioned at Ft. Polk, La. He holds the Combat Infantryman Badge. The 20-year-old soldier is a 1968 graduate of Gallman High School. Osborne Cook died Tuesday Osborne L. Cook, 85, of 409 Crosson St., died Tuesday. Born in Newberry County, son of the late John B. and Della Livingston Cook, he was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church and a retired employe of Newberry Mills Inc. Surviving are four sons, Fred H., Harold, T. Kenneth and O. L. Cook Jr. of Newberry; two daughters, Mrs. Vera Creek- more of Newberry and Mrs. Gertie Rodgers of Ridgeway; two brothers, J.
