Lominick, Sr. of Newberry and the late Mrs. Mozelle Ringer. Mr. Ringer is employed by Westinghouse Air Brake Company in Batesburg. Miss Abrams teaches Mathmatics at Irmo Jr. High, Irmo. The wedding is plann ed for Sunday, August 2, 1970 at 5:00 P.M. at Smyrna Presbyterian Church, Newberry. No formal invitations will be sent, but all relatives and friends are invited to attend the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Walter Wise of Newberry announce the engagement of their daughter, Nancy Diane, to Mr. Don Ricky Richardson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin H. Richardson of Prosperity. Miss Wise was graduated from Newberry High School and Palmer College. She is employed by Newberry Col lege. Mr. Richardson, a veteran of the United States Army, was graduated from Mid-Carolina High School and re ceived a B.S. degree in accounting from Newberry College in 1967. He is associated with Ocoma Foods Company, Newberry. The wedding is planned for Sunday, August 9, 1970, at 4:00 P. M. at Saint James Lutheran Church, Newber ry. No formal invitations will be sent, but friends and relatives are invited to attend the ceremony. JASPER CHAPTER HAS MEETING The Jasper Chapter of the Daughters of the American Re- voluation met at the home of Mrs. J. N. Beard on May 8. The associate hostesses were Mrs. Ralph B. Baker, Mrs. Ralph P. Baker, Mrs. T. L. Hill and Mrs. C. Walter Summer. Mrs. F. Scott Elliott, Sr., the regent presided. During a busi ness session, Mrs. P. M. Nich ols was elected and installed as regent of the chapter. Mrs. Leon D. Nichols was elected second vice regent. The chapter selected Mrs. W. M. Garling- ton, Mrs. P. K. Harmon and Mrs. D. O. Carpenter to com pose the nominating committee. Mrs. Elliott has been selected to serve as the state society chairman of motion pictures and Miss Juanita Hitt as chairman of American Heritage. The chapter voted to contri bute to the DAR Tamassee School Renovation project. The chapters are asked to contri bute $50,000. Miss Hitt continued her April program on old churches. She described in an interesting way old churches that she had visit ed in New York, Virginia, Mary land, Georgia, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Massachusetts. She had talked on the “old churches in the Carolinas” at her previous pro gram. Mrs. Elliott, retiring regent, was given a vote of apprecia tion for her three years of dedi cated service. The hostesses served delicious pound cake and ice cream. COLLEGE LIBRARY RECEIVES GRANT Newberry College has receiv ed a grant of $2,739 from the federal Department of Health, Education and Welfare for the purchase of library books, mi crofilm and related materials for the Wessels Library. The grant to be used during the 1970-71 school year was made to the College under the College Library Resources Pro gram authorized by Congress under Title II-A of the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amend ed. This is the fifth year that the College has received a federal grant under the program, ac cording to Mrs. Francis Fesper- man, College librarian. The val ue of the five grants has been over $27,000, she added. COMPLETES COURSE IN CHARLOTTE Johnny Brooks of West Elec tric, Route 1, has recently com pleted a MerCruiser stern drive training course at the Charlotte Service School of Kiekhaefer Mercury, a division of the Brun swick Corporation, manufactur er of MerCruiser and Mercury outboard motors. The course included installa tion, tune-up work, accessories, trouble shooting, and complete motor and stern drive overhaul procedures. MerCruiser units combine four-cycle marine en gines with stern drives as in tegrated power plants to give larger boats the advantages of outboard drive. The power packages, range from 90- to 390-horsepower. DAR CHAPTER WINS NATIONAL AWARDS Mrs. F. Scott Elliott, Sr., re gent of Jasper Chapter DAR, has received a notification from the National DAR Honor Roll chairman that Jasper again this year won the Gold Honor Roll rating, the highest that can be earned. It is based upon 12 areas of achievement. It was one of those chapters recognized for this attainment at the DAR Continental Congress held in Washington, D. C. April 19-25. The Chapter’s yearbook, of which Mrs. P. M. Nichols was chairman, also won again this year the National Blue Ribbon and this was announced at the Continental Congress. It is bas ed on format and programs. The chapter was recognized for obtaining four junior mem bers. Special commendation al so was given for publicity.
