C., Thursday, Dec. 4, 1969 Miss Sarah Kathryn King and Robert Eric Chapman were un ited in marriage at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, October 18 at Ave- leigh Presbyterian Church. Of ficiating were Msgr. William J. Croghan of St. Peters Catholic Church, Columbia, and the Rev. William T. King, father of the bride. The bride is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. William T. King of 1220 Kinard Street. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred E. Chapman of Columbia. Candlelight, palms and bask ets of soft yellow dahlias and mums set the scene for the double ring ceremony. Miss Mary Elizabeth Fowler at the organ furnished the wedding music. The congregation parti cipated in the service in res ponses and the singing of the hymns, “Praise to the Lord”, and “0 Perfect Love”. An ar rangement of “Now Thank We All Our God” was used as the recessional. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was radiant in a gown of candlelight peau de soie, featuring medallion ap pliques of ecru lace which blended with her Italian lace mantilla. Her only ornament was a dainty old-gold necklace, an heirloom of the groom’s mo ther. Her bouquet was of yellow rosebuds, cattleya orchids, ste- phanotis and ivy. Miss Jane King was her sis ter’s maid of honor. She wore a gown of brilliant pink crepe, and a headpiece of matching tulle. Her flowers were pink daisy mums. The bridegroom had his broth er, Richard K. Chapman, of Columbia as his best man. Usher groomsmen were James W. Corley, Steve J. Strzemienski, Albert G. Zygo- linski, and James E. T. Dwight, all of Columbia. After a wedding trip to the mountains of Montreat, North Carolina, the couple is residing at 1938 Beckley Drive, Colum bia. Rehearsal Dinner Following the rehearsal on Friday night. October 17, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred E. Chapman, parents of the bridegroom, en tertained at their home on Live Oak Drive in Columbia. A de licious buffet dinner was enjoy ed by the wedding party, their families and guests. Pre-Nuptial Parties Prior to the wedding, Miss King was honored with several lovely showers and parties. Miss Cindee Warrick, Miss Ruth Price and Miss Karen Fet- ner were hostess to a delightful surprise lingerie shower Sept ember 20. The guests gathered in the Little Parlor of Smeltzer Hall on the Newberry College campus. The bride-to-be was presented a unique rosebud cor sage. After an intertaining con test, the lovely gifts were open ed. Delicious punch, sandwich es and cakes were served from a beautifully appointed table. A miscellaneous shower of beautiful and useful gifts was enjoyed by Miss King and a group of her neighborhood friends on September 27 at the home of Mrs. John Felker. Host esses were Mrs. James Counts, Mrs. Floyd Dennis, Mrs. Dell Wilson, Mrs. Richard Addison, and Mrs. Felker. The honoree received from the hostesses a lovely corsage and a plate in her chosen dinnerware pattern. Several interesting games were played. Delicious refreshments were served the guests. A drop-in honoring Miss King was held at the home of Mrs. John J. Chappell on the after noon of October 4. Hostesses to this lovely affair were Mrs. Leon Nichols, Mrs J D. French, Mrs. C. M. Smith, Mrs. James Smith, Jr, Mrs. Van Anderson and Mrs. Chappell. The spac ious home was beautifully de corated with fall flowers. Many friends called during the ap pointed hours. Delicious coffee- punch, assorted sandwiches and cakes were served. The host esses’ gift to the honoree was a fine crafted wood serving tray. Miss King was honored in Columbia on October 11. Mrs. Roy Lee Winters entertained the group of close friends at her home on Devereaux Drive. Cake coffee and nuts were served af ter the opening of the useful gifts for the kitchen. A delicious luncheon served in the social hall of Central Un ited Methodist Church on Octo ber 18 honored Miss King and her cousin, Mrs. David Miller (nee Laura Grier), a recent bride, of Columbia. Aunts of the honorees were hostesses. They were Mrs. James H. Dav is, Mrs. B. R. Cooper of Simp- sonville, Mrs. J. B. Phillips of Fort Mill, Mrs. Heyward Davis and Mrs. John Davis, both of Columbia. Mrs. W. H. Davis, grandmother of the honorees, mothers of the brides and grooms, and out-of-town mem bers of the wedding party were guests. Silver candle holders were gifts to the brides. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Robinson have moved to 819 Hunt Street in a trailer home in the rear of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frazier Lominick. Miss Newberry pageant set It was announced art the last Jaycee meeting that plans for next year’s Miss Newberry Pageant are now being final ized by the Pageant Commit tee. The Pageant date has been set for April 18, 1970 at 8 p.m. in the Newberry High School auditorium. The title for the pageant will be “Big Wide Won derful World”. Arrangements, have been made with the Miss South Caro lina pageant officials for Miss South Carolina 1970, Newberry beauty Brantlee Price, to ap pear in the pageant. Letters with an application form to enable local merchants to purchase an ad in the pag eant’s program book have been mailed or will be delivered per sonally within the next few days. Anyone interested in advertis ing in the book may contact Parker Martin, program book advertising and sales coordina tor, at 276-5159 during work hours.
