A.G.D. Wiles Chapel from November 13- J. S. Dawkins funeral held J. Saxon Dawkins, 78, died late Thursday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Juanita D. Nichols, Route 1, Saluda. Mr. Dawkins was born and reared in this county and was the son of the late Bennett E. and Nannie Hardy Dawkins. He had spent most of his life near Prosperity, and was a member of Zion Methodist Church; a former member of the Board of Stewards and was a retir ed farmer. His wife, Mrs. Mat- tie Bowers Dawkins died in 1965. Surviving are one son, Jacob Sammy Dawkins of Prosperity; one daughter, Mrs. Guy Nich ols, Saluda; four brothers, Ben F. Dawkins, Elliott Dawkins, both of Newberry, Bunch Daw kins, Leesville and Huber Daw kins, Prosperity; and six grand children. Funeral services were held Saturday from his church with Rev. Raymond Brock and Rey. George Straight conducting the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. CHURCH OF GOD STARTS MEETINGS The Church of God at Pros perity will start regular Sun day morning and night services on Sunday, November 16. The morning service will be at 10 o’clock and the night service at 7:00. Rev. Bobby Cutter is pastor. Merchant dies in Columbia Funeral services for Henry W. Merchant were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the First Bap tist Church of West Columbia, conducted by the pastor, Rev. James F. Burriss. Interment followed in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Mr. Merchant, 52, died at Fort Jackson hospital Sunday after an illness of several months. He was bom in Newberry County, son of the late Henry W. Mer chant and Alberta Cook Mer chant and had made his home in Columbia for the past seven years. Mr. Merchant was retired from the U. S. Navy and was working at the Fort Jackson Ex- change Dept. He was a mem ber of the First Baptist Church of West Columbia. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jane Spires Merchant of the home, three brothers, Cecil Merchant, John Merchant and Furman Merchant of Newberry; five sisters, Mrs. Berley Rister, Mrs. Carl Bobb, Mrs. Charles Price, Mrs. Harold Epps of Newberry, Mrs. Lynell Bowers of Prosperity. Donald Hazel wreck victim Donald Lamar Hazel, 30, of Fayetteville, N. C., died early Thursday morning from injur ies sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Hazel was born in New berry, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Lamar Hazel. He was a chemist with Burlington Engineering of Graham, N. C. and was a mem ber of the Haymount Methodist Church in Fayetteville. Besides his parents, he is sur vived by his wife, Mrs. Frankie Dixon Hazel; one son, Shawn Lamar Hazel of the home; one daughter, Miss Dedra Michelle Hazel of the home; two broth ers, Robert Ernest Hazel of Newberry and Chales Alvin Haz el of Okeechobee, Fla.; two sis ters, Mrs. Nancy Carrol San- galie of Denver Colo, and Miss Susan Hazel of Newberry; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Le- la Norton Close of Tallahassee, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Ms. Alvin E. Hazel of New berry. Funeral services were con ducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fayetteville. Interment services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sun day at Rosemont Cemetery by Dr. George S. Duffie and Rev.
