Anderson Hosiery Com pany announced that employ ment applications are now be ing taken at the new plant near here. Frank Welch, general manu facturing manager of the Collins & Aikman subsidiary, notes that prior to this week both appli cations and pre-employment training have been conducted elsewhere. “Now”, Mr. Welch says, “the contractor is almost finished, and we’re in a position to hand le personnel and training funct ions at the plant.” Machines have been humming there since September 1, the day the first panty hose was produced at Prosperity. All de partments are functioning in the 240,000 sq. ft. plant, with grad uates of the state-conducted pre employment program joining the working staff as rapidly as they complete their training. “We’re very pleased with the training program,” says John Wallace, plant manager. “The startup has progressed very smoothly,” he says, but adds that there are still plenty of jobs to be filled at4he mod ern air-conditioned plant. S25-4tc Kiwanis club supper Friday The Newberry Kiwanis Club sponsors annually a pancake supper to raise funds for a scholarship, which it gives to some Newberry County student at Newberry College. This year the Pancake Supper will be served on Friday October 17, from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. at the Speers Street School. The members of the Kiwanis and Key Club serve this supper themselves. The tickets are $1.50 for all the pancakes, syrup, sausages and coffee one can eat. Tickets may be purchased from any member of either club, mem bers of the Kappa Delta Soro rity at Newberry College, from Boy Scouts at Oakland Mill and also at the door on the night of the supper. The public is cordially invit ed to come out and enjoy a good supper and at the same time assist the Kiwanis Club in this worthy project. Mrs. Lominick dies at age 98 Mrs. Elizabeth C. Lominick, 98, widow of the late R. B. Lominick, died Monday morn ing at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital after several months’ illness. Mrs. Lominick was bom and reared in Newberry County, the daughter of the late Belton Counts and Mary Oxner Counts. She was the oldest member of of St. Phillips Lutheran Church and was a member of the LCW. Surviving are three sons, Ila L. Lominick, Newberry, Bennie C. Lominick, Pomaria and Du ane A. Lominick, Charleston; five daughters, Mrs. Luther Folk, Newberry, Mrs. Claude Eargle Newberry, Mrs. John Halfacre, Newberry, Mrs. Lew is Aull, Raleigh, N. C., and Mrs. Malcolm Abrams, Greensboro, N. C.; 19 grandchildren, 1 great grandchildren and four great- great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her family. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. from St. Phil ips Lutheran Church with Rev. Clarence Walck and Dr. Grady Cooper conducting. Interment followed in the church ceme tery. COLLEGE TO HOST TEACHERS MEETING Newberry College will be host to the fall meeting of the South Carolina Chapter of the Ameri can Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portugese on Sat urday, October 18. Keynote speaker for the day long session will be Dr. Nestor Moreno, language co-ordinator of the University of South Caro lina. Officers for the new school year will also be elected. Dr. Albert Mature, head of the modern language depart ment at Newberry College, is acting as co-ordinator fdr the meeting.
