Funeral services were con ducted at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. H. J. Harmon. Inter ment was in Rosemont Ceme tery. Long-time employees of the Oakland' Plant of the Kendall Company were honor ed at the Third Service Awards Banquet last Wednesday night at Community Hall. Shown above, first row, from left, Betty P. Guest speaker for the occasion was George McQuilken, Kendall vice president and divisional manager, L. Hart Jordan, plant manager, presided. J. W. Wheeler dies suddenly James (Jim) D. Wheeler, Jr., 54, died suddenly Wednesday at Veterans Hospital in Columbia. Mr. Wheeler was born i n Newberry County, son of t h e late James D. Wheeler, Sr. and Ola Crooks Wheeler. He was a member of Aveleigh Presby terian Church. He was a paint contractor and a veteran of World War II. He is survived by a daugh ter, Miss Lucy Wheeler of Lit tle River Station, Miami, Fla., three sisters, Mrs. T. E. Riv ers of Gaffney, Mrs. D. C. Clark of Union and Mrs W. E. Den ning of Benson, N. C Funeral services were con ducted Friday morning at the Whitaker Funeral Home by Dr Neil Truesdell. Interment wa^ in Rosemont Cemetery. I. C. Sligh, 79, rites Saturday Tommie Claude Sligh, 79, of 2014 Eleanor Street, died early Friday morning at the Newber ry County Memorial Hospital af ter a lingering illness. Mr. Sligh was born in New berry County, the son of the late John and Lizzie D i c k e r t Sligh. He was a member of New Chapel Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War I. and a retired farmer. Boland, Route 1, has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex. He has been assigned to Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, for training in the transportation field. Air man Boland was graduated in 1968 from Newberry High school and attended Palmer College in Charleston. \ m mf M M Native of city dies in Florida Mrs. Maude Gruber Cogburn, 69. of Neptune Beach. Fla., wife of Wilburn M. Cogburn. died suddenly Friday morning a t Neptune Beach. Mrs. Cogburn was born in Newberry, the daughter of the late Drayton and Daisy Hogge Gruber. She was a teacher at Englewood High School in Nep tune Beach, a member of Nep tune Beach Baptist Church, the Jasper Chapter DAR, and the Calvin Crozier Chapter UDC. Besides her husband, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. E.B. Hume of Neptune Beach, and an aunt, Mrs. J. J. Hitt of this city. Funeral services were con ducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. J. Anderson Bass. In terment was in Rosemont Cem etery. Active pallbearers were Rob ert E.
