Huthnance Jr., will join the Newberry Col lege faculty next September as assistant professor and acting head of the mathematics de partment, President A. G. D. Wiles has announced. He is presently on the faculty of the Georgia Institute of Technol ogy. A native of Macon, Ga.< Dr. Huthnance was graduated from Georgia Tech in 1964 with a bachelor of science degree in physics. He won a number of undergraduate honors and re ceived a National Aeronautics and Space Administration grant for graduate study. He remained at Georgia Tech for his master’s degree in mathematics in 1966, and earned his doctorate there in math last year. His doctoral thesis is being published. As a graduate student he was a teaching assistant. Last fall he became a full-time member of the Georgia Tech faculty. WITHMEN IN THE SERVICES PARRIS ISLAND, S. C.~ Marine Private James Neal, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie J. Neal of Route 4, Newberry, S. C. was graduated from 8 weeks of recruit training at the Par ris Island Marine Corps Re cruit depot. He will now undergo from two to four w r eeks of individual combat training and then, af ter leave at home, will report to his First Marine Corps as signment. ROME, N.Y. — Andrew C. Henderson, son of David Cole man of Boundary street, New berry, has been promoted to staff sergeant in the U. S. Air Force. Sergeant Henderson is an administrative specialist at Griffiss AFB, N. Y. He is a member of the Strategic Air Command. The sergeant, a graduate of Gallman High School, attended Voorhees Junior College in Denmark, S. C. His mother, Mrs. Sallie Henderson, resides in Thomasville, N. C. Sgt. Hendersons wife, Mar garet, is the daughter of Rev. W. M. McMorris of 217 Cald well street, Newberry. PHAN RANG, Vietnam — Moses Caldwell, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cleophos Caldwell of Rt. 1, Prosperity, was promoted to Army private first class and assigned to the 589th Engineer Battalion in Vietnam, Dec. 26. Pvt. Caldwell is a dump truck driver in the battalion’s 513th Engineer Company near Phan Rang. VIETNAM, JAN. 3—Marine Private First Class Thornton L. Sims, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sims of 2503 Holloway street, Newberry, participated in operation “Meade River” In the Dodge City area 11 miles south of Danang, Vietnam. He is serving with the First Marine Division, which conduct ed the operation to find enemy forces and destroy their cap ability to strike against the Danang area. The operation ac counted for 1025 enemy dead. LUZON, Philippines — Ser geant Keith R. Bedenbaugh, son of Mrs. Laura M. Beden baugh, Rt. 2, Prosperity, has arrived for duty at Clark AFB, Philippines. Sgt. Bedenbaugh, a naviga tion equipment repairman, is assigned to a unit of the Pac ific Air Forces. He previously served at Cam Ranh AB, Viet nam. The Sergeant is a 1965 graduate of Clinton, S. C. High school.
