C., Thursday, Dec. 5, 1968—PAGE 5 Leonard Pitts died Friday Leonard Floyd Pitts, 67, of Route 1, Silverstreet, died early Friday night at the Newberry County Memorial hospital. A life-long resident of Newberry county, he was a son of the late David Reeder and Mary Longshore Pitts. He was a re tired dairy and poultry farmer and a member of Trinity Unit ed Methoodist church. Survivors include his wife, Marie Epting Pitts; five sons, James R. Pitts of Henderson, N. C.; Leonard Pitts Jr., West brook, Me.; George E. and Billy Pitts, both of Newberry, and Grady Lee Pitts of Kinards; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Johnson and Mrs. Veda Dorroh, both of Newberry; six brothers, Hugh, Herman, Jesse, and William Pitts, all of Newberry, J. Mil- ton Pitts of Chappells and John Pitts of Silverstreet; 10 grand children and two great - grand children. Funeral services were held Sunday from his church with Rev. James G. Mishoe and Rev. Ralph Lowimore conducting the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Al ford Dorroh, Madison Pitts, Stanley Pitts, Johnnie Pitts, Marion Pitts, J. W. Pitts, Jim Pitts and Herman Johnson. Rev. F. L. Johnson. Interment was in Southland Memorial Gardens. Interment was in Laurens Coun ty Memory Gardens, with full Masonic Rites. Vernon Mills died Saturday Vernon Lee Mills, 47, of W. Columbia died Saturday in the Medical College Hospital in Charleston. Born in this county, he was the son of B. W. Mills and the late Mary Morris Mills. He was a building contractor and a deacon at Springdale Baptist church. Surviving are his widow, Dor othy Connelly Mills; a daugh ter, Mrs. Terry Crider of Col umbia; three sons, Randy Lee Mills, Tony Allen Mills and Mi chael Vernon Mills, all of W. Columbia. Funeral services were held Monday from his church by the L C. Bennett dies suddenly Elmer Curtis Bennett, 54, of 503 Milton Road, Joanna, died suddenly Monday at his resi dence Mr. Bennett was born in Clinton, the son of Mrs. Nettie Shedd Bennett of Newberry and the late J. Floyd Bennett. He was employed by the Raven Homes, Inc., a member of the First Baptist Church, a Mason, member of Magnolia Lodge No. 1306 of Joanna. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby May Bennett; one son, Robert L. Bennett of Wash ington, N. C.; two brothers, E. F. (Pint) Bennett and Harold Bennett, both of Newberry; two grandchildren. Funeral services were con ducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Byron Harbin and the Rev. J. Leland Rinehart. Mrs. Harmon, 60 dies Tuesday Mrs. Estelle Caron Harmon, 60, of 907 Harrington Street, wife of Eugene B. “ Skipper w Harmon, died Tuesday morning at the Newberry County Mem orial hospital. She was born in Lexington county, a daughter of the late James F. and Cora Lee Shull. She was a member of Central Baptist church. Surviving also are a dough- ter, Mrs. Richard Duff, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, Travis and James Shull of W. Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Shull Ussery of Col umbia and Mrs. Doris Shull White of W. Columbia. Funeral services were held at Whitaker Funeral Home by Rev. George Duffie and Rev. Neil Truesdell. Burial was in Rosemont cemetery. Mrs. Boland, 84, passes Monday Mrs. Minnie Metts Boland, 84, widow of L. Bates Boland, died Monday at the Newberry County Memorial hospital. She was born in the Little Mountain section of Newberry county, a daughter of the late Calvin and Mattie Kinard Metts. She lived in Pomaria for a number of years and was a member of th e Pomaria Lu theran church. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. J. J. Ruff, Mrs. Cally She- ay, Mrs. Grace Counts and Miss Mary Boland, all of Pomaria; two sons, Charle Ray and Le land H Boland of Pomaria; a brother, C. D. Metts, Little Mountain. Funeral services were held Wednesday from her church by Rev. Elford Roof. Burial was in the Pomaria cemetery.
