National Bank South Carolina National Bank has named five outstanding citizens to the Newberry Board: Deward B. Brittain, general manager of the Forest Products Division of Owens- Illinois, Inc.; Herschel A. Kem per, president of Kemper Chev- rolet-Olds Co., Clifford T. Smith, farm leader in Kinards; C. Walter Summer, Associate Professor of Economics and Business Administration at Newberry College; and J. Keis ter Willingham, president of Newberry Federal Savings and Loan Association. Mr. Brittain graduated from the University of South Car olina and attended the Execu tive Development Program at the Graduate School of Busi ness at the University of Mich igan. He served with the Navy in WW II in the South Pacific and was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Mr. Brittain is a past recip ient of the South Carolina Jun ior Chamber of Commerce Dis tinguished Service Award. He is married to the former Sloan Hungerpiller of Harts- ville. They are members of the Episcopal church. Mr. Kemper is a director of the South Carolina Automobile Dealers’ Association and is a member of the Chevrolet Dealer Planning Committee. He is di rector and treasurer of the Newberry County Mental Health Association and finance chairman and treasurer of the Newberry Horse Show Associa tion. He is past president of the following: Lion’s Club, Cham ber of Commerce, Newberry Country Club, and the Newber ry County Shrine Club. Mr. Kemper attended Mercer University and served with the Navy in WW II. He is married to the former Mary Elizabeth Sinclair of Ma con, Georgia. They are mem bers of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church of which Mr. Kemper is a deacon and church treasur er. They have a daughter, Mrs. Richard M. Kenan of Columbia, and two grandsons. Mr. Smith is president of the Farmers Educational Associa tion and a charter member of the board of directors of the South Carolina Dairy Commis sion. He has been a supervisor of the Newberry Soil Conserva tion District for 10 years. He is a past president of the New berry Livestock Association and of the South Carolina Dairy As sociation. Mr. Smith is a board member of the South Carolina Milk Producers and serves on the advisory board of producers for the Pet Milk Co. He is a member of the following: South Carolina Jersey Cattle Club, Palmetto Dairymen’s Federation, South Carolina Fed erated Breeding Association, and the American Dairy Asso ciation. He also serves on the Farm Bureau County and State Board. Mr. Smith received the Mas ter Farm Family Award in 1953 and the Award of Merit in ba lanced farming in 1951. He is a member of the Gov ernor’s First Advisory Council on Agriculture. A graduate of Clemson University, Mr. Smith serves on that school’s Board of Visitors. He is a director of the Newberry Electric Cooper ative and is a former director of the Newberry County De velopment Board and of the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Smith is a deacon in the Bush River Church and a past president of the Brotherhood. He is married to the former Helen O’dell of Liberty. They have three daughters. Mr. Summer received his bachelor** degree from Newber ry College and his master’s de gree from the University of South Carolina. Licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in 1956, Mr. Summer is a member of the following: American In stitute of CPA’s, South Caro lina Association of CPA’s, and the American Accounting Asso ciation. He is a member of the control committee of the South Carolina Control Accounting Careers Council. Mr. Summer is a past secre tary-treasurer of the Newberry Bond Committee, and is a mem ber of the Rotary Club, the Masonic Lodge, and the Shrine Club. In WW II he was a pilot in the Army Air Force. He re ceived an honorable discharge in 1966 as a Captain in the Air Force Reserve. * Mr. Summer is listed in “Who’s Who in the South and Southeast,” “Who’s Who in American Education” and the “Directory of the American In stitute of Certified Public Ac countants. ” Mr. and Mrs. Summer are members of the Associate Re formed Presbyterian church. They have three sons. Mr. Willingham is president of the Association for a Great er Newberry. He serves as a director of the Newberry Ro tary club and of Boys Farm. He is past president of the S. C. Savings and Loan League and a past director of the Uni ted States Savings & Loan League for the Southeast. Mr. Willingham is on the advisory committee for Purcells, and is a member of the Newberry Country Club. An elder in the ARP church, he also teaches the Olin Can non Bible Class. Mr. Willing ham is a graduate of Newberry Business College. He is mar ried and has a son and a daughter. Marriages Michael David Riggs and Beverly Lucille Lucado of New berry were married here on September 28. Jerry Roscoe Lominick, Po- maria and Ann Shannon, New berry, were married at Pros perity on Sept. 28. Joe Wayne Dominick, Pros perity and Beverly Sarah El liott of Lexington were mar ried Sept. 28 at Little Moun tain. Gary R. Reed of Chicago, 111. and Judith A.
