Indians, Bears clash Saturday The Newberry College Ind ians will be seeking their first win this Saturday, Oct. 5 as the powerful Lenoir Rhyne Bears invade Setzler Field. The Indians were massacred last season by their North Carolina Lutheran counterpart, 54-6, and the Tribe hopes to return the favor. Thus far, Lenoir Rhyne is 2-0 on the season while Newberry is 0-2 and looking for its first victory. Lenoir Rhyne has not shown the scorching punch that produced 42.7 points per game last season. The Bears’ first victory was a 13-7 squeaker against an aroused Wofford team. Their second victory came at the ex pense of the Presbyterian Blue Hose by p score of 17-7. New berry was drubbed 55-14 by Appalachian in its first outing, and was blanked 31-0 by Cat awba. The Indians will have to stop the feared single wing offense run to perfection by the Bears. The pigskin appears to be lost in the backfield. LR will be led by halfback Jack Huss who set a new school record last season with 1063 yards through the air. All-Conference Toby Mor gan will return to the wingback position. The Indians will be led by tailback George Taylor and fullback Don Burton. Taylor is the leading Indian ground gainer and Burton came into his own as a runner against Catawba. The bruising fullback carried 12 times for 70 yards and a 4.2 average. Roger Hazel was also im pressive against Catawba as he nabbed four passes. He has a total of eight catches for 91 yards and one touchdown thus far in the season. As a punter, Hazel has punted 13 times for 592 yards. NEWCOMERS CLUB HAS MEETING The Newberry Newcomers Club held its first fall meet ing Wednesday, September 18 at Smeltzer Hall, Newberry College.
