Republican Party’s annual sus taining membership dinner on September 19. The announcement was made by State GOP Chairman Harry S. Dent. Senator Murphy accepted the invitation issued on behalf of his Senate colleague, Senator Strom Thurmond. Murphy, Thurmond and Senator Robert Griffin of Michigan are cur rently leading the Republican fight against confirmation of Abe Fortas as Supreme Court Chief Justice and Homer Thomberry as Associate Jus tice. Dent said the dinner will be held at the Columbia Township Auditorium on Thursday, Sep tember 19. Dinner will be serv ed from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and the program will begin at 8:00 p.m. Murphy will be introduc ed by Senator Thurmond. At a similar dinner in 1967, the South Carolina Republicans turned out 3,500 persons to dine with another Californian, Governor Donald Reagan. This was hailed as the largest poli tical fund-raising dinner in South Carolina history. Senator Murphy, like Rea gan, earned his first fame as a movie star. License dates clarified Because of considerable pub lic misunderstanding as to the expiration dates of driver licenses, the State Highway Department has issued infor mation to clarify requirements under the existing law. Specifically, the following ap plies: 1. Each new plastic-type li cense (bearing the driver’s photograph) will expire on the driver’s birthday anniversary in the fourth year from the year of issue. 2. Each old paper type or metal license will expire as follows: If the license was issued prior to June 30, 1965, it will expire on the driver’s first birthday AFTER June 30, 1969. If the license was issued on or after July 1, 1965, it will expire on the driver’s birthday anniversary in 1969. On these licenses the expiration date was changed by typewriter at the time of issue. TB Committee meets August 6 Richard W. Stowe, president, has announced that members of the Executive committee of the Tuberculosis and Health Asso ciation of Area 6 will meet at 4:00, Tuesday, August 6, in the Greenwood County Health Department. The Executive committee is composed of the officers in ad dition to one director from each of the seven counties in Area 6. Among the committee members are the Rev. Neil E. Truesdell and Mrs. W. C. Koon of Pomaria. Guardsmen may get special license plate Members of the National Guard in South Carolina have been notified by the State High way Department that they may secure special National Guard license plates for their private vehicles in the renewal period which begins September 3rd. Under a law enacted by the General Assembly this year, active members of the National Guard may obtain special plates containing the legend -“Nat ional Guard” and a likeness of the famous Minute Man of Revolutionary War fame, if they desire. Cost of a set of special plates is $1 in addition to the normal vehicle license fee. Plates for the 1969 license year will be issued starting on September 3. The new license year starts November 1 and ends October 31, 1969. Special licenses may be trans ferred to another vehicle in the same weight class upon not ification of the Highway De partment. It will be unlawful to switch special plates from one vehicle to another without prior approval of the Depart ment. IN FLORIDA Mrs. C. A. Reeder is spend ing this week in Jacksonville, Florida with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Davis and family. During the week, they will spend sev eral days in Miami. Wreck injuries fatal to Mrs. 0. L Hill Mrs. O. L. Hill Sr., 73, of Charlotte, the former Frankie Pay singer of Newberry, was killed in a two-car accident on the by-pass from Rock Hill to Charlotte Sunday. Mrs. Hill is survived by one son, Oscar L. Hill Jr., Char lotte, N. C. and a number of relatives, including a brother, Gerald Paysinger of Newberry. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the chapel of Harry & Bryant, Charlotte. Also injured in the accident were two nieces of Mrs. Hill, Miss Margaret Paysinger of Newberry and Mrs. M. H. Wil son (Annie Blanche Paysinger) of Charlotte, a native of this city; Mrs. Wilson’s four-year- old daughter, Janie Dell, was not injured. Miss Paysinger suffered a broken leg and a broken wrist and Mrs. Wilson suffered a broken jaw and a broken leg. Both are patients in the York County Hospital at Rock Hill. Hugh McCarley dies in Georgia Word has been received in Newberry of the death of Hugh McCarley July 22 in Newnan, Georgia. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Brice McCarley, formerly of Newberry. Surviv ing are his widow, two child ren, four grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters. Lee, 2534 Fair Avenue, completed a radio relay and carrier oper ation course at the Army S. Eastern Signal School, Fort Gordon, Ga., July 5. During the 9-week course, he was trained to operate different types of field telephone, tele graph and radio relay equip ment. BOOZER FAMILY HOLDS REUNION The descendants of the late Jefferson Boozer and Laura Bedenbaugh Boozer held their annual family reunion Sunday, July 28, 1968, at the Mt.
