Pitts, who died at the base while on active duty. Cols. Richard E. Tiede, left, and Louis L. Pitts, former non-commissioned officer in charge of Personnel Services. Mrs. Long, 77, service Friday Mrs. Beulah Belle Bobb Long 77, of Rt. 3 Prosperity, died Thursday afternoon at a Colum bia Hospital. A native of New berry County, she was a daugh ter of the late Robert Thomp son and Mary Ida Baird Bobb. She was a member of Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. J. C. (Ruby) Fulmer and Mrs. Jake (Eula Mae) Beden- baugh, both of Prosperity; a sister, Mrs. Maggie Johnson of Kinards; a brother, Astor Bobb of Kinards; three grandchild ren, Douglas and Jewel Beden- baugh and Jeffery Fulmer. Funeral services were held at 5 p. m. Friday from Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church with Rev. William H. Link and Dr. .Grady Cooper conducting the service.Burial was in the Church cemetery. Curtis Koon’s father dies Curtis Boyington Koon, Sr., 72, of Saluda, father of Curtis B. Koon, Jr. of this city, died Friday at his home. Funeral services were held in Lutheran Goodhope church Saturday afternoon. County native died Sunday Frank Earle Schumpert, 66, of Greenville, died Sunday at 12:45 p.m. Mr. Schumpert was born at Prosperity, a son of the late Frank E. and Kitty Livingston Schumpert. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen Vance Schumpert of Greenville; a daughter, Miss Helen Marie Schumpert o f Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Marie S. Heard of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a brother, Harry L. Schum pert of Greenwood. Mrs. Shealy, 77, rites Tuesday Mrs. Anna Roberta Koon Shealy, 77, wife of Virgil J. Shealy of Little Mountain, died early Monday morning at the Providence Hospital in Colum bia. Mrs. Shealy was born and reared near Pomaria and was the daughter of the late Jacob and Lula Aull Koon. For a num ber of years she made her home near Little Mountain and was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church and the L. C. W. Surviving are her husband, Virgil J. Shealy, Little Moun- Is graduate of Citadel CHARLESTON, June 1st— Cadet Carl Edgar Fellers, son of Lt. Col. and Mrs. E. R. Fel lers of this city, was graduated from The Citadel, today in a colorful ceremony. He received his diploma from his father, a 1932 Citadel graduate, while Gen. Hugh P. Harris, presid ent of the college, looked on. While at The Citadel, Fellers held membership in Circle “K” Club, the Association of the United States Army, the Lu theran Student Union, and the Economic Honor Society. A consistent Dean’s List student, he was enrolled in the Army ROTC Program. Fellers was awarded the B.S. degree in business administra tion. tain; one son, Robert H. Shea ly, Columbia; one daughter, Mrs. Myron (Dorothy) Horlach- er, Columbia; two brothers, John E. Koon, Pomaria, and Thomas Koon, Spartanburg; two sisters, Mrs. John M. Har mon, Pomaria, and Mrs. Sam Cook, Bishopville; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. from Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church near Little Mountain with Rev. Wil liam Cobb conducting the ser vice. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Gym named in honor of Leonard Pitts Master Sergeant Pitts was the son of the late L. C. Pitts, Jr, and Winfred S. Pitts of Florida. His wife is the former Miss Barbara Felker of New berry. Also surviving are two sons, Bobby Louis and Walter, and a sister, Mrs. Ann P. Cro mer of this city. Following is the speech of Col. Richard E. Tiede, made at the dedication of the “Pitts Memorial Gymnasium”: “It is my honor today to play a part in the dedication of this sports center in honor of a man who has done a great deal to enrich the Rhein-Main Sports program. Master Sergeant Leonard C. Pitts had been, be fore his untimely death, NCOIC of Rhein-Main Personnel Ser vices. But we are. not dedicat ing this gymnasium solely be cause of the outstanding job Sergeant Pitts has done in ful filling the requirements of his position. I believe a more im portant aspect of this man was the inspiration he was to oth ers. Sergeant Pitts was the type of man that brought out the best in everyone associated with him. His personal interest and untiring efforts on behalf of the Rhein-Main Sports Pro gram and on behalf of each and every athlete and specta tor associated with it, is an ex ample for all of us in the Air Force to be proud of. I am proud to have known this man who did so much for his fel- lowmen. I would now like to read the inscription f rom the plaque that has been placed inside the gymnasium in memory of Ser geant Pitts. “Pitts Memorial Gymnasium Dedicated 15 April 1968 in memory of Master Sergeant Leonard C. Pitts for his unsel fish and extraordinary efforts in the athletic program while NCOIC, Personnel Services, Rhein-Main Air Base, United States Air Forces in Europe. Shaw announced plans to build a three million dollar plant near the City of Laurens. New four-lane road between Laurens and Clinton built and now open to traffic. New $160,000 Laurens County Airport now complete. Two new schools in City of Laurens; one new school in City of Clinton. New nursing home in City of Laurens. Construction of new nursing home in Clinton to begin in next few weeks. Laurens County Home for Aged renovated and enlarged. Many county roads have been black topped. Many more are scheduled for construction. County finances in excellent condition—no tax increase. All county employees given pay increase each year for past three years. All of Whitten Village employees placed on forty-hours week. In 1965 Dobbins would not allow S. C. Game Dept, to charge hunters additional $3.00 permit to hunt deer and wild turkey. Dobbins does not claim to have accomplished this record by himself. This record was accomplished by Dobbins as Senator, working hand in hand with other elected offi cials, members of the school board, civic groups and business leaders of Laurens County. Vote for WILLIAM C. DOBBINS, the man who has worked to promote the growth and progress of Laurens County, and who will work to promote the growth and progress of the Laurens-Newberry-Union District.
