On Tues day, the band performed its contest rou tine for the Mayor and other interested on-lookers. Approximately 20 hands will compete in the contest, which is to he nationally televised over both NBC and CBS net works. Only 00 seconds is allowed to each hand for its routine before the judpes. The parade is scheduled to bepin at 1 :0o p.m. New Orleans tune (2:00 pan. Newberry time.) The Newberry Band marched up Nance street Tuesday from the hiph school to the square, led by a police escort and New berry Hiph cheerleaders. Funeral services were con ducted Thursday in Spartan burp. f <v Sextet concert at College The New York Sextet, tour- inp vocal ensemble from Man hattan, will appear at New berry collepe Thursday even- inp ( h\'b. 22). Their concert, at H p.m. in Wiles Chapel, is open to the public without charpe. The sextet, featurinp bass- bantone Edmond Karlsrud, will present a varied program of art sonps, f*)lk sonps, operatic selections, spirituals and popu lar Broadway show tunes. The featured sinper, Mr. Karlsrud, is one of the most experienced concert perofrmers on tour today. His record of more than 1,100 concert ap pearances is almost unmatched amonp contemporary artists. For several seasons, the Sex- tot has been touring coast to coast, meeting with critical ac claim, The singers are noted for their imaginative program ming and their excellence as individual artists as well as en semble performers. The pro gram, which consists in part of numbers familiar to most audiences, is enhanced by at tractive staging and special musical arrangements.
