We congratulate the 5 million Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Ex plorers who are members of this fine orga- n i zation. Our best wishes go to the dedicated men and women who have given so generously of their time in the character training of these youngsters. Our country is richer for their participation. “YOUR PRIVATE BANKERS” Ills Main Street Phene 376-1 122 tight budget is really stretch ing things, especially when Mr. Johnson insists that most of the increase is ‘mandatory’, mandatory only in the sense that the Administration and Congress are profligate with the people’s money.” We seem to he faced with a reckless campaign for more State Taxes. Many years ago our law mak ers tried to prov.de for the essential services of the state such as courts, justice, pol.ct protection, etc. Now \v • seem as easily moved as f he Cong ress. Today it is not a matte, of essential service, but the pr.'ssure of this group and that group which maintains a lobby in Columbia. Incidentally there is n > equal ity in taxation or in anything else. A thorough study of out taxation, as of indust ic.-:, mer chants,, and all others subject to taxation, will show notable inequalities. And the individual has Ins choice of nea.uy any type program imaginable with just a twist of the dial. And it’s an iniormalive media, ai.-o. Some times even enlightening. I was turning the d al on my little portable shortwave AM- FM radio the other night searching for a char signal from Radio Moscow, Russia’s counterpart to the Voice of America. I found R idio Mos cow's signal near the !*7 mega cycle hand and was listening to their version of the world news. Saiddmily I started to get in terference from another sta tion. 1 listened as the two sig nals took turn about fading in and out. commanding the wave length and then losing that command. As I was listening to the con- tinmis battle for the listener ear, 1 recognized tile station that was battling Radio Mot»- cow. 11 was Radio IK J R in (.juito. Ecuador in South Amer ica. For those of you who are not familiar with shortwave nnlio 11 ( J I> is a < 'hristian Mis- suinaiy station, It is located high in the Andes in the coun try that straddles tht worlds midswtion. I listened fer a short time to these two stations, thous ands of miles apart in more than geography, in their battle to he heard. Then, as the bat tle continued, it suddenly dawn ed on me that this was the battle being fought around the world. It was being fought here only on a limited scale. Roth stations had their mes sage to present. And they were tht' familiar messages that \v< have listened to before. Radi* Moscow was showing the im perialist United States as liars, war-mongers, haters and des troyers of peace, murderers in Viet Nam, and wrong in every respect. HCJB was sending out some of the fanvliar ( hristian music interspersed with a mes sage of what the Nazarene could do for the individual and for the world. Radio Moscow’s message was presented by the familiar man and woman whose voices are heard regularly. HCJB’s mes sage was presented by a host of people, some trained, some not. Listening to the messages one got the impression that both were saying their way was the way of the world. Isn’t this always their mes sage ? So if they both say that their’s is the best, how does one judge? You judge by their fruits. That is, by the product they produce. This is the best basis for judgment ever conceived. One sees, in judging commun ism, an iron curtain and a Ber lin wall. One sees, in judging Christianity, the freedom to choose or to refuse. That battle of the airwaves is still being fought all over this earth, my friend. And if you want the truth about the matter at this moment Com munism is winning. But the battle isn’t over and Christ ianity has the most powerful weapon—TRUTH. And truth will eventually triumph. It may take a long time and cost a lot, hut it will win—eventually.
