Schools. I-’or many years, ac
creditation was thought of only
for hip r h schools — in fact, the
name of the Souther: Associa
tion formerly was "Colleges
and Secondary Schools."
In recent years, however, the
State Department and the
Southern Association (SACS,
as it is called) have pushed
the elementary schools to be
come accredited.In the case of
SACS, this calls for a “self-
study” on the part of the in
dividual schools, by the faculty
and administration of t h e
schools. Once the schools learn
th-ur short-mmlntrs they mu<t
correct these in order to come
up to accred tation standards

State Board
I. Hart Jordan of Newberry
was elected to the hoard of
directors of the State < ’hambet
of (dmmene Thursday
.Jordan, plant manager of
the Oak'and IMant of Kendall
Company, will serve a l! year
term on the hoard as the rep
resentative of Newberry county.
A native South Carolinian,
Hart is a member and former
president of the Lions Club
and was treasurer of the
United Fund in 10'M.
Purchase of a new fire truck
was again the subject of much
discussion when city council
met Tuesday night. Mayor
A .Shealy Jr. told council that
specifications for the truck had
been prepared, and asked that
the matter he submitL'd to the
budget committee for consider
ation. He stated that it would

of Forestry personnel changes.
Thomas W Forte has l>eeft
transferred from Newberry to
Lancaster as Project Forester
for Lancaster and Chesterfield
counties. He will provide for
est management services to
landowners in these two coun

Clarence Ed drove has been
employed to replace Mr. Forte
at Newberry. Mr. Grove, a na
tive of Birmingham, Alabama,
received his forestry training at
Auburn University.
