Bob Smith of North Augusta, president of the South Carolina District Exchange
Clubs, was present when the local Exchange club met Tuesday night to receive its
third consecutive Big “PC’ award for excellence. The Newberry Club is the only one
in the state to receive the award for the three years it has been offered, and one of
H in the nation to attain this honor. Admiring the Award are, from left. Carol
Hipp, who served as president during the year for which the last award was won;
Mr. Smith; Jack Goree, president and Frank Culclasure, division director of the
S. C. Pbxchange Club. Another special feature of the Tuesday meeting was having

The public is invited.
The Special Award of the Defense Supply Agency,
first ever to go to a textile firm, was presented Monday
to the employees of the Whitmire Plant of J. B. Stevens
& Co. in impressive ceremonies. The Whitmire prople
were being honored for their “Outstanding contribution
to the support of the armed forces of the United States
during the Southeast Asia buildup as a supplier ot spec
ialized cotton greige goods used in military fabrics.” On
hand for the presentation were, from left, Flay F. Alex
ander, superintendent of the Whitmire plant; Robert r I.
Stevens president of J. P. Stevens Co.; James H. Abrams,
manager of the plant and Brig. Gen. J. M. Kendcrine of
the Defense Supply Agency, who made the award.-
