The Newberry Sun, Newberry, S. C., Thursday, March 16, 1967—Page 5 Miss Judith Mazzola (left center) and Miss Josephine Schlott formerly of Newberry have just completed a five- month specialized course in Bible instruction and mission ary training at the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead in New York City. Miss Mazzola and Miss Schlott as well as Rober to Franceschetti (right center) of Italy are shown with a fel low student who portrayed an ancient Israelite in a Biblical drama on the student’s pro gram, which followed the graduation exercises March 12. The course provided each day for a half-day’s classroom activity and a half-day’s prac tical training. Academic stud ies included a chapter-by-chap ter study of the entire Bible, the relation of world history to the history of the Bible as well as Bible-teaching techni ques. A very practical feature of their missionary training was the intensive. instruction given to every student in one of the following languages: Spanish, French, Portuguese, Korean and Chinese. These studies were shared by a class of 103 selected ministers of Jehovah’s Witnesses who were gathered from 12 lands around the world and who are now equipped to take their mission of peace to the 29 different lands to which they are assigned. S tudents were also given an opportunity to study and par ticipate in the United States Branch’s supervision of its 5,314 congregations and 359 traveling ministrial supervisors in addition to sharing in the operation of the Society’s printing plants. The entire stu dent body participated in the actual production of the year’s output of 17,682,964 Bibles and Bible study aids as well as 141,596,580 copies of the So ciety’s two magazines, The Watchtower and Awake! “It was most impressive,” Miss Mazzola said, “to observe the force for peace that the Bible exerted in our close as sociation with so many dif ferent nationalities and cul tural backgrounds. We always enjoyed mutual understanding and peace with our fellow stu dents and this emphasized to me that the nations of the world could peacefully coexist if the teachings of the 'Bible were only followed.” Miss Ma zzola and Miss Schlott are being sent to Columbia, South America on special assignment. Many Newberry County resid ents will remember them for their missionary activity thru- out the county prior to their course of missionary training in New York.
