Tiller. Lifeguards have been em ployed and public swimming is available at Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park. The swimming area at Che- raw State Park epened Sun day, July 3. Swimming at Hunting Is land State Park is also avail able. Sw’imming has been permitted in this state park for the past two years. Opening of swimming areas at other state parks wdll be announced when lifeguard staffs are employed and when the areas and facilities can be made ready for use by the public, Tiller said. Mrs. Melinda Counts Pugh, : 81, died early Thursday morn ing in Columbia after several weeks illness. Mrs. Pugh was born and reared in this county, and was a daughter of the late Walter and Mary Hawkins Counts. She w'as an active member of Zion Methodist church. Her husband, J. E. Pugh died a number of years ago. Mrs. Pugh is survived by six sons, Marvin Pugh, Carroll Pugh, Leroy Pugh, all of Pros perity; Ralph Pugh, Olin Pugh, both of Columbia; Elton Pugh, Memphis, Tenn. Funeral services were held Friday from her church with ; Rev. Raymond Brock and Rev. !j. A. Keisler Jr., conducting I the service. Interment w r as in the Zion ! church cemetery. COURSE IN ARMY Fort Jackson — Army Pvt. Johnnie B. Shealy, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Shealy, Route 2, Prosperity, completed a four-week clerk course at Fort Jackson, June 24. During the course, he was trained in the preparation of military records and handling correspondence. Instruct ion was also given in fundamen tals of the Army filing sys tem. Summer, Newber ry COLUMBIA, July 1—Family camping areas at 22 South Carolina state parks are open to the public, said State For ester John R. Tiller. Camping areas at Myrtle Beach State Park and Santee State Park were opened this week by the S. C. State Com mission of Forestry. Camping areas at 20 other state parks have been open for the past two years. Tent and trailer camping areas are available at the fol lowing state parks: Aiken, Barnwell, Campbell Lake, Che- raw, Chester, Colleton, Way- side, Givhans Ferry, Hunting Island, Kings Mountain, Lee, Little Pee Dee, Mill Creek, Myrtle Beach, Oconee, Paris Mountain, Pleasant Ridge, Poinsett, Rivers Bridge, Santee, Sesquicentennial, and Table Rock. At Myrtle Beach state park the charge for campsites is $2.50 per day. At all other developed state park family camping areas $1.75 per site per day is charged.
