THE HOSPITAL
Usually a card of a phone call
to a friend in the hospital will
serve the same purpose as a

A big turkey dinner with all
the trimmings, was served to the
faculty .and student body just be
fore the Christmas holidays be
gan. Several visitors enjoyed the
lunch with us. All our meals are
well planned, prepared, and serv
ed. Incidentally, our school lunch
program participation is 100 per
cent.
The three children of the Eu
gene Edgins’ family returned to
our school from the Eastover El
ementary school in Richland coun
ty. Larry Crosson has returned to
Silverstreet from Newberry Jr.
High School. Rickey Cutshall en
tered this school from Mars Hill
in North Carolina^
A large group of boys from
the community have started to
use the gymnasium in preparation
for a season of basket ball games
with other teams within Newber
ry county.
The students responded very
well in contributing to the Amer
ican Junior Red Cross and the
Christmas Seal campaign. All
the rooms joined the American
Junior Red Cross Chapter 100
per cent.
The Caterers, Bus Drivers, Jan
itor, and the Principal were rem
embered with various gifts at the
close of school on December 18
by the faculty and student body
in appreciation of their excellent
service in various ways during
the first half of the school year.
The people of this community
were well represented at the
Christmas parade on Tuesday,
December 1 in Newberry. The
Silverstreet float won third prize
in the selected competition thru-
out Newberry county.
We have shown many films and
filmstrips to the entire faculty
and student body either as a
group or according to grade lev
els in their subject fields. For
example, in connection with their
study of Italy, the sixth grade
viewed a color film on that coun
try.
Mr. Ralph E. Watkins, Jr., Dir
ector of the Newberry Schools,
paid us a visit on the last day
before adjournment. His visit was
welcomed by all. After a visit to
each classroom he departed for
Newberry High school, however,
not before all parties extended
each other a Merry Christmas and
a Happy New Year.
The third grade and Mrs. Mar
guerite Havird recently visited
the Silverstreet Fire Department.
Mr. “Dick” Neel, fire chief, was in
charge of the guided tour. They
found it very interesting and in
deed, are very appreciative of Mr.
Neel’s help.
All of the classrooms were beau
tifully decorated for Christmas.
The following groups had pro
grams and parties commemorat
ing appropriately the yuletide
season: 4-H Club, Beta Club, each
classroom. Mrs. Bussey and Mr.
Bryson attended the 4-H club
event.
Miss Workman and the fifth
grade were in charge of the as
sembly period on Thursday of the
final week. The Christmas story
was read. Then a devotional per
iod was conducted. A very unique
play entitled, “Santa Claus for
President” was presented by mem
bers of the fifth grade.
On behalf of the Silverstreet
School Faculty and Student Body
I would like to wish everyone a
very Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year.

We know very little about the wiser 1
journeyed toward a new star and a new King . . .
but of one thing we are sure . . . they came with
Faith. They did not question or hesitate but fol
lowed the star until, at last, they laid their precious
gifts before Him in worship.
' .'KW'
Like those wise men of the first Christmas, may
we too, come with Faith. May we too, bring our i
most precious gifts of Love and Reverence and
4th to Him.
To all our good friends, old and hew, we ~
this sincere wish: May you enjoy a Cbrisi
Reverence and Joy. May every moment be lit by
the star-bright miracle of Faith.
