THE NEWBERRY SUN, NEWBERRY, SOUTH CAROLINA UDC Chapter Enjoys Supper The Calvin Crozier Chapter met at the home of Mrs. Ida Summer for the annual Christmas supper meeting on Tuesday, December 10. Thirty members were present, in cluding honor guest, Mrs. Eloise Welch Wright. Mrs. W. H. Tedford, chapter president, opened the meeting with a December prayer. Aftr a delightful meal, Mrs. Wright, a formr President General of the U.D.C., gave a report on the general convention held in Memphis, Tennessee. The ladies al ways look forward to having Mrs. Wright as a guest, and hearing her speak. A short fellowship period was enjoyed, and then the members ad journed after repeating the Mis- pah in unison. C. Society, S.A.R., and Prof. F. Scott Elliott Sr., chaplain of the Philemon Waters Chapter, S. A.R., attended a meeting of the Board of Managers of the S. C. Society, S.A.R., at the Jefferson Hotel in Columbia on December 15. At this meeting the Board ap proved the establishment of a sixth SAR chapter in South Caro lina to be called the York County Chapter. The other five chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution in South Carolina are located in Columbia, Charleston, Greenwood, Newberry and Spartanburg. Miss Eva Shealy Rites Saturday Miss Eva Shealy, 62, retired teacher of Chapin, died early Thursday morning at the Lowman Home. She was born in Chapin, a daughter of the late George E. and Alice Amick Shealy. She had spent most of her life in Chapin where she was a member of the St. Jac ob’s Lutheran Church. Miss Shealy attended Newberry College and taught school in Rich land, Lexington and Newberry Counties, retiring seven years ago after having taught 38 years. She was a member of the S. C. Retired Teachers’ Association. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. William T. Poole, Columbia, and Mrs. Paul E. Eargle, Little Moun tain; three brothers, J. Malcolm Shealy and Frank M. Shealy Sr. of Chapin, and J. LeGrande Shealy Sr., Irmo. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Jacob’s Luth eran Church, conducted by Rev. John W. Wessinger and Rev. J. Kenneth Webb. Burial was in the churchyard. Mrs. Henry Dies Mrs. Mamie McGraw Henry, wi dow of Rev. W. S. Henry, died late Friday night at a Greenwood hos pital. Born in Newberry County, daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Mary Urnestine Sligh McGraw, she was a member of Central Methodist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Miss Nell Henry and Miss Claire Henry, both of Newberry and Miss Mary Henry of Greenwood and Newberry; and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Richardson of Prosperity. Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Whitaker Fun eral Home by Rev. T. H. Vickery. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ned M. Rich ardson, Earl L. Rushton, J. C. Richardson, H. Gary McGraw, Wil fred D. Jackson and D. E. Christie. RITZ Theatre WEDNESDAY Lassie's Great Adventure June Lockhart, Hugh Riley, Jon Provost. Mr. and Mrs. George F. Scruggs will leave this weekend to spend a few days in Charlotte, N. C., with their son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Crum and family before going on to Roa noke, Va. to spend the Christmas Holidays with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Scruggs and family. Prof. T. E. Epting and Mrs. Claude Sanders will spend the Christmas holidays in Greenville with their sister, Mrs. Carl Ept ing.
