Too often veterans who have sold their GI homes learn later that i.ie buyer has defaulted on the loan, the mortgage has been fore closed, a deficiency resulted and they are liable to the VA fo£. pay? ment of the claim VA had to pay the lender. Veterans should understand this thonraghly when disposing of GI homes, John I. Findley, Loan Guaranty officer of the Columbia VA Begional office, said. The veteran may be released of that liability to the Veterans Ad ministration if his loan is current and if the purchaser has obligated himself by contract to purchase his property and assume his lia bility. In addition, the purchaser must satisfy the Veterans Administra tion that he is a good credit risk. A veteran planning to sell his GI home may take either of two steps to avoid future liabillity. (1) He can arrange for the GI loan to be paid in full. (2) He can allow the purchaser to assume his GI loan and obtain a release of his liability on the loan from the holder of the mortgage and the Veterans Administration provided, of course, both agree. He may apply to Veterans Ad ministration for a release from liability by submitting a written ivxjuest addressed to the Manager of the Veterans Administration egional Office which processed the loan. Dies Suddenly William Gregory, 68, died sud denly Wednesday afternoon at his residence, Route One, Pomaria, af ter four years’ declining health. Mr. Gregory was born and rear ed in Union County, a son of the late William and Sallie Parr Greg ory. He had made his home in Newberry County for the past 43 years, where he was a carpenter. He was a member of Salem Bap tist Church and a veteran of World War L He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Belle Harmon Gregory; three sons, Sidney H. Gregory of Un ion, Willie D. Gregory of West Columbia, and Robert L. Gregory of Mooresville, N. C.; two daugh ters, Mrs. C. B. (Maurguerite) Mayer of Columbia, and Mrs. Al bert (Johnny) Ladd of Blair; four sisters, Mrs. Beulah Gregory, Mrs. Lillian Dye, Mrs. J. T. Gregory, and Mrs. Wallace Keisler, all of Union; three brothers, P. J. and Broadus Gregory, both of Car lisle; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were conduct ed at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mc- Swain Funeral Home by Rev. Frank Inman. Burial was in Un ion Memorial Gardens. The request should include the Veterans Administration loan number, if known (it is shown on the reverse of the certificate of eligibility), the address of the property, the name and address of the proposed purchaser, and the name and address of the holder of the mortgage. The meeting was held in the conference room of Wessels Libra- ry- Mr. Lightsey a native of Rich land County has served as advisor to the S. C. Democratic Party and is presently legal counsel for the S. C. Public Service Commission. He is a graduate of Clemson with degrees from the University of Georgia and the University of South Carolina. At the end of his address, Mr. Lightsey talked informally with the Young Democrats and their guest, including special guest Pinckney N. Abrams, chairman of the Newberry County Democratic Party. Refreshments were served at the conclusion of the meeting. Mr. Lightsey was introduced by Doctor Frank W. Ashley, faculty adviser to the Club. The officers of the Newberry College Democratic Club are: President, Roger Flowers; vice president, Henry Barnett; secre tary, Lee M. West; treasurer, Wm. Scarry; and reporter, Doris Meads. Roundtree Dies Walter J. Roundtree, 77, died late Sunday afternoon in Charlotte after a lingering illness. He was born in Whitman, Ga., the son of the late J. 'B. and Ada Converse Roundtree. He lived many yeais in Decatur, Ga., and before his retirement, he was a representative of the Pacific Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the Decatur Presby terian Church and a member of the Rotary Club of Decatur. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Adeline Johnstone Roundtree; one son, Walter J. Roundtree Jr. of Fall Church, Va.; and two daugh ters, Mrs. Lee Thurman of Atlan ta, Ga. and Mrs. Harold K. Couch of Charlotte. Graveside services were con ducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnstone Cemetery in Newberry by Dr. Robert S. Woodson of the Trinity Presbyterian Church of Charlotte. Dr. Simpson, 65, Service Friday j Dr. Louis Boyd Simpson, 65, of Lesslie, died last Wednesday night at his home in Rock Hill. Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. Friday from Neely’s Creek ARP Church by Dr. W. R. Echols. Interment was in Neely’s Creek Cemetery. He was born in Catawba and' reared in Lesslie, a son of the late James -M. and Ella Boyd* Simpson. He attended Lesslie. school and was a graduate in pharmacy at the Medical College of Charleston. He was connected with drug companies in Charles ton, Greenville, Charlotte and Rock Hill and was associated with Good Drug Company for about 30 years, retiring a year and a half ago. He married Miss Olivia Stewart of Newberry in 1923. Survivors included his widow; two sons, L. B. Simpson Jr. of Rock Hill and R. W. Simpson of Charleston; a daughter, Mrs. A^ F. Massey Jr. of Rock Hill; two brothers, J. T. Simpson of Colum bia and J. M. Simpson of Cayce and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Faris of Lesslie and Mrs. Clyde Fudge of Edgemoor. Mrs. Lewis Davis and children, Susan and Edward Cousins of Val dosta, Georgia and Mr. and Mrs. Artie Hutson and son, Artie III of Columbia, spent the weekend in the home of Mrs. C. A. Four members of the National Council, an advisory committee to Founder, Robert Welclj, are gath ering at the hall to deliver major speeches in regard to Society methods and objectives. Dr. Slo bodan Draskovich, prominent Council member and Editor-in- Chief of The Serbian Struggle, an international weekly newspaper, stated at a similar meeting held recently in San Diego, California, that “for the past 115 years the Communists have been waging a relentless war not only to con quer the world, but to destroy our minds.” Robert H. Montgomery, a dis tinguished member of the Massa chusetts Bar Association, past General Counsel for New England 1 Telephone and Telegraph, and a member of the Faculty Club of Harvard is well-known as one of America’s foremost Constitution al authorities. Montgomery, who authored the recently published book, Cacco-Vanzetti, the Murder and the Myth, will deliver the first address of the morning session.
