The minutes of the last meeting as read by Mrs. W. Roy Ander son, secretary, were approved. Plans for the symposium on “Conservation, Horticulture and the Art of Good Living” to be held on February 3rd and 4th at the University of South Carolina under the joint sponsorship of the Garden Club of South Carolina and the University were present ed. Miss Susan Elizabeth Frazier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Frazier of Newberry, and a mem ber of the Palmetto Junior Gar den Club, will make response to the address on “Wild Flowers in Your Garden” by Dr. Wade T. Batson of the University. The Saturday program is arranged for Junior Garden Club members. Mrs. T. P. Crooks, president of the Council, appointed the follow ing committee to present nomi nees for the 1961-62 officers of the Council: Mrs. W. Roy Ander son, Mrs. John J. Chappell and Mrs. L. L. Haltiwanger. The Council discussed plans for the East Piedmont District meet ing to be held in Newberry on March 15. Mrs. John R. Frazier and Mrs. Clem I. The Rev. Henry A. McCullough, pastor, of ficiated, using the double ring j ceremony. i The vows were spoken before a background of white gladioli, white chrysanthemums and white candles in floor candelabra. Mrs. William Monroe, organist, and Miss Claudia Setzler, soloist, cousins of the bride, rendei^d a musical program. The ushers were George Setz ler, brother of the bride and John Filingim of" Macon, Ga. Wayne Boone of Saluda and Clemson Col lege was best man. The acolytes were Carl and Charles Setzler, cousins of the bride. The bride’s matron of honor was Mrs. John Filingim of Ma con, Ga., niece of the bridegroom. She wore a street-length dress of aqua marine chiffon over taffeta with matching slippers. She car ried a bouquet of pink carnations. The flower girl was Robin Fra ley of Columbia, cousin of the bride. She wore a dress of pink nylon organza and carried a dain ty pink basket. The ring bearer, Martin Arm- field, wore a navy blue suit and carried the ring on a satin pillow. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was lovely in her waltz length wedding dress of white chantilly lace over taffeta. The fitted bodice accentuated in front with lace was fastened down the back, and fashioned with a por trait neckline and elbow length sleeves. The bell-shaped skirt was gathered across the back and en hanced by a lace bow. Her finger tip veil of bridal illusion fell from a small crown of pearls and lace. She carried a white Bible topped with a white orchid show ered with ribbon and fern. The bride’s mother wore a blue crepe dress with matching acces sories and a corsage of pink cai’- nations. The bridegroom’s mother wore an orchid wool sheath dress with black accessories and a corsage of pink carnations. The bride’s parents entertained w.th a reception at their home, 946 Cornelia St., following the ceremony. For a wedding trip, the bride donned a green wool suit with white hat and black accessories. The oi clu 1 from her Bible com pleted her costume. The bride is a student in New berry High School. The bridegroom, a graduate of Saluda High School, is in busi ness in Saluda. Mrs. Merchant Honored With Many Parties A number of lovely parties hon- | ored Mrs. James G. Merchant, the former Miss Beth Setzler, before and after her marriage in Decem ber 20th. On Dec. 13 Mrs. James Abrams, Mrs. Claudia Hinson and Mrs. Frank Armfieid were hostesses at a bridal shower held at the home of Mrs. Abrams. The home was beautifully decorated for Christ mas, and presents for the honoree were placed beneath the tree. She was also presented a white carna tion corsage. Sandwiches, individual bride cakes, cheese straws and soft drinks were served. Mrs. Carl Setzler and her daughters, Misses Claudia and Elizabeth Setzler were hostesses at a linen shower for Miss Beth Setzler on December 16th. The honoree was attractively attired in a dress of red brocade taffeta, with which she wore a white car nation corsage, a gift of the hos tesses. Mrs. Setzler greeted guests, pinned on favors, and invited them into the home which was beautifully decorated in Christmas motif. Games and contests were enjoy ed, after which the hostesses serv ed a delicious salad plate with spiced tea. Miss Setzler received many lovely gifts which had been placed under the Christmas tree. Prior to the rehearsal on De cember 19th, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Setzler entertained the wedding party with dinner at their home, which was decorated with pink and white gladiolias, carnations and pink candles trimmed with net. The dining table was covered with a crocheted table cloth over pink satin, and was centered with the wedding cake. Punch, nuts and mints were served by Misses Ann Abrams, Rachel Bedenbaugh, Eli zabeth Setzler, Mrs. James C. Abrams and Mrs. Hugh Connelly. Mrs. Ben Hazel of Saluda greet ed guests at the door. They were invited into the dining room by Mrs. Ralph Setzler. Miss Ruth Feagle presided at the register and Mrs. M. B. Crooks . bade guests goodbye. As guests entered they were asked to register on a rolling pin, which was given to the honor guest. Contests and games were en joyed, after which the hostesses served German chocolate cake with hot coffee. The bride, who wore a green wool dress, was presented a white carnation corsage and many lovely gifts. On Tuesday night, Jan. 3, Mrs. G. H. Connelly, Mrs. Mayes Der rick and Mrs. Hugh Connelly hon ored Mrs. Merchant at the home of Mrs. Hugh Connelly. The bride’s chair was marked with bows of ribbon, and she was pre sented a corsage made of measur ing spoons, rolling pin, frying pan and grater. Small bags of rice were favors pinned on the guests, who registered in the Bride’s Book. Following games and contests, the hostesses served chocolate pound cake, coffee and salted nuts. 1240 Kc.
