One particular stale lays what is probably a Just claim to the title, **¥<and of jCnchantment,” but indeed, r—nlisiitiiinnf is to be found everywhere in this freat land of oore—East, North, Sooth and West. Mm the crow flies, it is sometimes only a abort distance from barren desert land to the heights of a snow-capped mountain; from mucky swamplands to gently rolling pine thickets; from the noisy din of a concrete Jangle to the peaceful quiet of a wilderness. Regardless of where yon live or may be, a part of America’s wonderland of nature is not too fsr away. The scene above shows two horsemen enjoying the view from the moraine overlooking Wallowa Lake (Oregon) with the Wallowa Mountains in the background. HARPER CHANGES M ORE years ago than I care to write, I heard a college ora tor begin his address by refer ring to a traveler on a railway train rushing west at sixty miles an hour on the surface of the earth revolving toward the east in a great orbit around the sun, et cetera, being puzzled to know whither he was tending. In view of the many changes that have come since then the time seems far away when I heard the address. It would he a greater puzzle to know whither we are tending now. For the amazing changes that have come to tiie world have almost stripped us of the imagination to think of anything further for mankind. Yet material changes have not been alone in forming the picture of the world at the present But it is in the changes apart from the material that we find a sure hope of the present For the holy season which we are enter ing reminds of the eternal things above all reach of change and de cay. And so, as we sometimes sing, “O Thou who changes! not abide with me.” FOR SOLICITOR I hereby announce myself a can didate for re-election to the office of Solicitor of the Eighth Judi cial Circuit, and pledge myself to abide the results of the Democrat ic Primary. Will you please give me all the information you have on how to make people like us.” Many times in this column we have talked about the “problems" of teenage dating.'But we do not have a mass of information that we can pass out. We could “toss out" all types of problems, but instead, let’s approach the situation in a nore positive manner. \ Is teenage dating aH right? Cer tainly, it is. If boys and girls are not allowed to date until they are selves socially. Confidence, poise, personality—these do no> come with a certain age; they must be developed. Where getting along in life is concerned; we learn by doing, just as we learn to swim or to ride a bicycle. When is a boy or gfrl “old enough" to date? Here again, we do not think anyone can establish d certain age and say, “this Is, it." Children should be urged to go to and school and even before they t n When they are “oU enough^ for a parent to m this is why some of them delay making it, thus creating a “dating problem." It is the opinion of this corner at'asssrr.s U until the age of 10 or 20 is not near so wise as the parent who allows his teenager, to dale much earlier —and who supervises such as the kind of company kept, hours, and the places where “dating”^ is done. How do we make people like us? They must like us if we are friendly, if we observe the rule; if we are fair, honesi, ana always thp type of person that we ourselves would like for a friend. 'l ,..
