I saw you smiling against the sun’s bright face. It is morning again in a lonely place, High over a trackless space, Where blood was shed wn every case. As I turn to the east, I feel the warm sun And the gentle breeze pressing against my cheek— The sun and breeze that touched ybu first. All day long there were loving memories of you, Of the days I taught you to play, And of the time w T hen you grew tall and good. The joy of knowing you are safe and well has gone away. The body still nurses a heart so sad, As I kneel to pray all alone to day. “Please give me courage and peace of mind, Savior.” The world still turns at the same set pace— Counting year on year and still no trace. I grieve for you, my own dear son. Over the green mountains that know no thirst, I have the gentle breeze to keep in touch— The breeze that touched you first. The sunset hour is near, dear, When the sun will soon reach a- round to your resting place. I shall await the morning for the sun’s warm touch— The one that touched you last, my precious son.
