The topping can be crumbly, made by mixing together 14 cup sugar, % cup flour. 14 cup butter and 1 teaspoon cin namon. Quick party sandwiches are yours if you blend together 1 cup of ground ham with 2 teaspoons THIS WEEK'S RECIPE Quick Doughnuts (Makes 12 to 14) 3V 4 cups packaged biscuit mix 14 cup sugar M» teaspoon cinnamon 1 egg *4 cup milk 2 tablespoons cooking oil Mix together biscuit mix. sugar and cinnamon. Beat egg until bubbly. Add milk and oil to egg. Add liquid to dry ingre dients all at once and stir until dry ingredients are Just moistened. Place dough on lightly floured board and roll to 14-inch thickness. Cut with doughnut cutter. Let stand for 15 minutes to rise lightly. Fry In 4 cups hot fat heated to 365- 370* F until golden brown. Drain well, then dust with powdered sugar. horseradish, 2 tablespoons sliced ripe olives and 14 cup of soured cream. Bake your favorite recipe for meringue in custard cups or a rectangular pan. To serve cut in to squares, top with drained pfach halves, whipped cream, mara schino cherries and nut meats. Keep the kitchen toasty warm and fragrant by baking your next stew in the oven. It can be lamb, beef, chicken or veal. Saves pot watching, too. Hamburgers will be extra spe cial if you cream butter and add crumbled blue cheese to this. Spoon this on the ‘burgers’ a few minutes before whisking them out into the buns. WORLD OUTDOORS Goal for 1958: Protect our Pub lic Lands! Such is the announced objective of the National Wildlife Federa- \ tion. a citizens group which has a total membership in excess of two million persons. The National Wildlife Federation is not a gov ernment agency, but rather an association of state federations or leagues and their affiliated local conservation clubs. The activities of the Federation will be brought to national atten tion during National Wildlife Week. March 16-22, but the efforts of this group of citi/.ens in the field of conservation are not limited to this one week in the «year. The Federation supports a year-round program of education and publicity designed to bring about an in formed public opinion that will in sure the preservation and protec tion of our public lands—that will save our streams ‘from pollution, our fields from erosion, our forests from fire, and prevent encroach ment on established game refuges. It is a people’s program—financed by civic-minded persons through the nation who every year send in small contributions in exchange for Wildlife Conservation Stamps. Saving our public lands is a responsibility that belongs to all of us. Soils, water, minerals, plants, animals, scenery and wild erness—these are all part of a heritage which we must preserve, protect and pass on to the genera tions that are yet to come. Our privilege to use them brings with it the obligation to see that our public lands are not abused. We hope that the National Wildlife Federation, with the help of civic minded persons everywhere, oac make the business of protecting our public lands a matter of con cern for every American. 69 YEARS ON . . .
