But Alas! he rocked the boat and he went over* board into the lake and lost his fish. Such may remind us of the dis appointments of life, of the many fish we do not catch because of one thing and another. Don’t con clude that you surely have a prize when the fl£h is on the hook. And recent survey conclude that boating is getting more than its share of new enthu siasts. Boating is fun, on a small stream, a rolling river, or the salty seas. Yet many beginners overlook the fact that it can also be hazardous. Whether on a stream or at sea, a boat is not the safest place in the world for a non-swimmer. Many dock operators who rent boats or extend dock privileges in sist that every boater be equipped with a life preserver, whether he is a swimmer or not. This is a gen- 'eral rule at most of the TV A im poundments. This is a requirement, however, that is not standard oper ating procedure at many private lakes—and quite often the tragic result is death by drowning for some unlucky or careless boater. When you are afloat, wear your life preserver at all times; it may be uncomfortable, but it may also save your life. If you are a boating enthusiast, here are some other things to re member: Small boats and big water, like water and oil* just don’t go to gether. - Recklessness on the waterways can kill you as quickly and surely as carelessness on the highway. When you approach or pass an other craft, swing a wide berth, for safety’s sake. Racing can make boating a dangerous game, not a hobby. Canoes, small boats and skiffs may appear plenty seaworthy—but they were made for light activity. If you’re boating along the shores of the gulf or ocean, stay close to shore. We have felt all along that we owe a very definite obligation to the thousands of investors at the Newberry Federal Savings and Loan Association, a responsibility to pay them as large a dividend as possible in keeping, however, with our sound business policy. On the other hand, we have also felt a very definite obligation to build as strong an Asso ciation as possible.
