Come in Today NEWBERRY LUMBER CO. 913 Cline St. Phone 56 The ladies of the Stone Hills took turns making wine for. the church- to use for 'communion. That summer it came our time. We always tried to keep a little wine in the house. But had been out for several years. So my mo- jther thought she’d replenish our supply while making it for the church. Everybody was sent out to pick blackberries, and we must have gotten a washtub full. It was all made up in regular fashioh in an oaken half-barrel and left in the smokehouse to “work". The weather was hot, so it didn’t take long. The rich rnby wine was drained off,' leaving several gallons of dregs. She told the big Colored boy we had raised to pour these out. He inched and rolled the barrel along down to the edge of the yard there, where the hog-wallow had dried up. The stuff smelled good to him and he tasted it. He then drank his fill, and poured the rest out there In the dry hole in the red clay that held it liker a tub. The geese were thirsty, soon they found it, and partook heavily. Several pigs strolled by, heard the gay chatter, and evi dently thought water had return ed to their dry wallow. So they chased the geese away, tasted it, and it was to their liking too. They quickly sucked up all the Colored boy and geese had left. Soon there was the most comi cal sight down there we had ever seen. But space does not remain to tell you now. I’ll do that next week.
