In 1944, they started using a blood substance known as Gamma Globulin to treat children suffering from measles. The measles death rate was cut in half within two years. Gamma Globulin also prevents or helps reduce the effects of contagious jaundice. Scien tists are finding seme success in using it to prevent the crippling after-effects of Polio, but not nearly enough blood is being collected to supply all these requirements. , ^ ■ 'W m m Tr W|S Americans always answer the need they know about. Our country urgently needs more blood. Please make an appointment for your blood donation today! s * ) * , . * yv«3 V '*f. • ’ FOR POSSIBLE ENEMY ATTACK i.i !*. ‘I? f|V We hope ft won*! happen. Bat we mast prepare for any eventuality in this atomic age. One A-bomb over a big city could oauee 60,000 casualties. At least 40,000 man, women and children would need immediately at least one unit of whole blood or its derivatives—and three times that amount after the first attack. Blood derivatives can be stored for five years. So The Federal Civil Defense Adminis tration is trying to collect enough blood to build a minimum reserve in addition to t—«»—military civilian needs.
