Guests enjoying the meeting with the members were Mrs. John Schrum of Lincolnton, N. C., Mrs. Ben M. Clark, and Mrs. Ray P. Hook. Mrs J Walter Hamm, vice pres ident presided in the absence of the president, Mrs G. W. Harmon, and presented the guest speaker, Mrs. Ray P. Hook who gave an in teresting and Informative dis cussion of Buddhism. Mrs. Hook showed pictures of the various forms of Buddah. in the different countries, 'the sorosis will con tinue to sponsor the book club. During the social hour the hos tess, assisted by her sister, Mrs. Sohrum, served a palatable salad plate, individual blueberry pies, and spiced tea. Miss Shirley Bowers, a recent bride, was complimented with a miscellaneous shower at the rec reation center at Zion Methodist church last Friday evening. The hostesses were Mrs. Earl Stevens, Mrs. George Pierce Fellers, Mrs. Dwight Shealy and Mrs. “Bubber” Hiller. Autumn garden flowers were used in the room. The honoree was given a bridal corsage and her chair was marked with a bow ot pink ribbon. Appropriate games were played and prizes awarded. The hostess served sandwiches, potato chips, cup cakes, punch and mints. The honor guest received many pretty and useful gifts. The October meeting of the Crepe Myrtle Garden club was held Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. W. A. Ballentine. Fifteen members and cne guest, Mrs. Earl Beden baugh, were present. Mrs. Raymond Ruff, program chairman, opened the meeting with devotions. She then discussed the planting and growing of peo nies. Mrs. C. K. Wheeler gave gleanings. Mrs. Cole Wessinger conducted a Hallawe’en contest with Mrs. B. M. Clark, Mrs. J. A. Singley, and Mrs. Hoyt Boland' winning prizes. Officers elected for the new year were, president, Mrs. Hoyt Boland; vice president Mrs. B. M. Clark; secretary - treasurer, Mrs. G. H Caldwell. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Bedenbaugh, served a frozen cus tard, sandwiches, nuts and Rus sian tea. The Circles of the Women of The Church of Grace church meet Friday afternoon at 3:30 as fol lows: The Anna Krugler with Mrs. Malcolm Taylor; The Lillie Kyzer with Mrs. Clyde Hartman; The Gertrude Leonard at the par ish building with Mrs. John Bed enbaugh as hostess. Mrs. Brooks Epting is a patient in the Newberry hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Cole Wessinger spent Sunday in Saluda with Mr. and Mrs. A. Z. Wessinger. Leon Shealy has returned from two weeks training of the Sea Bees Reserves in Bermuda. James H. Barnes, who recently was discharged from the airmy has accepted work in the Langley- Bath-Clear water high school in Aiken county and began work on Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Alexander and their son, Robin, of Washing ton, D. C., are spending the week with Mrs. Alexander’s mother Mrs. H. E. Counts. Maj. and Mrs. Ray Ohlhues of Charleston were with Mrs. Counts for the weekend and on Sunday. Mrs. Counts’ guests Mr. and Mrs. Hines McWaters and Mrs. R. L. Courtney of Columbia. Mrs. R T. Pugh has returned hopie from a two week’s visit with her son-in-law .and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bedenbaugh, in Laurens. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Mills spent the weekend with their children, Mrs. W. L. Campbell and Mrs. W. A. Camp and their families, in Greenville. Mr. and Mrs. Mills celebrated their wedding anniver sary during the weekend, and their children took them to the mountains for the celebration.
