C. visited Tues day afternoon in the home of Mr. Sanders’ brother, .Frasier Sanders and family on Rosalyn Drive. Mr. amd Mrs. Bob Kennerley and children, Frank and Robin spent Monday and Tuesday in Co lumbia with Mr. and Mrs. Gus Kaminar. Leland G. Summer. Sr. who has been a patient in the local hos pital for three weeks where he was undergoing treatment, re- turnd Tuesday to his home on Harrington street. Mrs. Ernest O. Ktnard of Co lumbia, formerly of Pomaria, un planning to return to his work with Southern Bell Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Derrill Scbumpert, Jr., of Union, and Miss Doris Schumpert, a member of the An derson Junior College faculty, spent the weekend in the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Schumpert on Boundary street. Gerald O. “Jack” Shealy Is a patient at the Providence hospital in Columbia where he underwent a serious operation Monday. He is recovering nicely and is expect ed to return home in two weeks. Mr. Shealy is superintendent of the city water plant. • Miss Ann Campbell, a student depwent surgery in the Provi- nurse at Columlbia hospital, spent dence Hospital Wednesday morn ing. She is reported to be recov ering nicely. Mrs. Fred Gardner returned to her home at 1501 Caldwell street Wednesday after undergoing treat ment at the Newberry hospital for several days. George N. Martin, who under went an appendectomy in Newber ry Memorial hospital Sunday is doing nicely and expects to be back at his place of business this weekend. Mr. and Mrs. D, J. Cook of Rich- lands, Va., arrived Saturday after noon for a short visit with Mrs. Cook’s sister, Mrs. Thomas J. Harmon on Jones street. They re turned to their home Sunday by way of Greenville where they vis ited the Shriners’ Hospital and Banner Elk, where their son, Hugh E. Cook registered as a member bf the freshman class at Lees-McCrae College. Mrs. Julia Frick of Clinton spent a couple of days the first of the week, in the home of, her brother-in-law amd sister, Mrs. F. C. Wicker, on Route three. David Ringer, who has been on leave of absence, and underwent surgery in Columbia in August is the weekend with her parents, Mi*, and Mrs. S. C. Campbell on Har rington street. MRS. CLARA BARID and small daughter have moved to '1822 Main street in one of the Smith apart ments, where they will make their home while Mr. Barid is on duty overseas. Methodist Churches To Meet Together The Methodist churches of the community will participate in the United Methodist Services, to be held at Central church loginning Sunday, October 2nd and contin uing through the following Sun day evening, October 9th. The services are planned daily with morning services at 10:30 amd evening services at 7 and 8:15. • Participating ministers are Rev. J. W. Davenport, Rev. Edward Bradham, Rev. Ray Hook, Rev. Ph,il Jones, Rev. C. B. Word, Rev. R. A. Hughes and Rev. Herbert L, Spell. Participating churches are Trin ity, Ebenezer, Lebamon, New Cha pel, Bethel, O’Neal Street, Lewis Chapel, Epting Memorial, Wight- man, Zion and Central. J. N. Ruff, Sr. Dies At Home Jacob Nolan Ruff, Sr., 60, died late last Wednesday night at his residence in the Mt. Bethel-Gar- many section pf Newberry Coun ty. He bad been in declining health for several years but his death came suddenly. Mr. Ruff was born and reared in Saluda County, a son of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Nolan Ruff Brp- phie and the late Jake Ruff. He lived im Newberry for a number of years where he operated a busi ness and for a number of years he had ma.de his home in the Mt. Bethel-Garmany section. He was a member of Corinth Lutheran Church in Saluda County. He is survived by his wife, j Mrs. Janie • Boozer Ruff; four* sons, Earl D., Jacob ^Jolan, Jr., Murray, and Wallace Ruff, all of fNewberry; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas $ease, Mrs. Walter Lake, and Mrs. Harvey Jordan, all ot Newberry; his mother, Mrs. Eliza beth Brophie, of Birmingham, Ala.; four half sisters, Mrs. Max- ey Black, and Mrs. Linwood Matt hews, both of Saluda, Mrs. Claude Berry, of Ninety-Six, and Mrs. Katherleen Pratt, of Birmingham, Ala.; three half brothers, L. W. Ruff, of Newberry, J. D. Ruff, of Williamston, amd John Brophie, of Birmingham, Ala. -and 7 grand children. Funeral services were conduct ed at 3:30 p. m. Friday from the McSwain Funeral Home by the Rev. H. S. Petrea, the Rev. Joseph E. Walker, and the Rev. C. B. Word. Intermdnt was in Newber ry Memorial Gardens.
