Stewart on Wilson street and at her home in Helena. mrs. j. f. McConnell, moth- ar of Ed McConnell, suffered a Jbeart attack recently in Charlotte, Jf. C., while visiting Mr. and Mrs. Mrerett Kendrick. She was treat- «d at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte until Thursday night of last week when she was brought to the Mewberry hospital. Her condition Is reported to be satisfactory. MRS. F. N. MARTIN, George Martin and Miss Cynthia Martin spent Sunday in Charleston in the home of Dr. and Mrs. James B. Martin. MRS. C. D. HARDIN is spending two weeks in Turbeville with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Julian Gamble and family, and in Florence with another son- in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ringer and family. MRS. F. M. SCHUMPERT and daughter. Miss Doris Schumpert spent the past weekend in the mountains of North Carolina. They visited in Boone, Blowing Rock, and drove over the Blue Ridge Parkway. MRS. STROTHER PAYSINGER, who has been a patient in the F*rovidence Hospital in Columbia for two weeks, has returned to her home on Johnstone street. While at .FTovidenee she under went major surgery. She is recup erating nicely. L. C. GRAHAM, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, return ed Friday night from the Univer sity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he attended the South eastern Institute for Chamber of Commerce executives. MR. AND MRS. ROBERT H. ROBINSON have moved to 1232 McMorris street in an apartment in the home of Dr. and Mrs. Paul Heisey. MR. AND MRS. THOMAS HALFACRE have moved to their new home, 2019 Glenn street. MR. AND MRS. TOMMY FOY are now making their home in Apartment E-2 of Carol Court apartments. LITTLE BOBBY v ARMFIELD, six-week-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Armfield of Whitmire, has been a patient in the Newberry County Memorial Hospital for the past week where he has been un dergoing treatment. The Arm- field’s other children, Bill, Jr., Jeannie and Christie Lynn, are visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lonne Gilliam on Cor nelia street. MRS. T. P. JOHNSOfr and daughter. Miss Tommie Johnson left Monday for a few days visit in Waxhaw, N. C. MRS. A. T. NEELY will leave Friday for Augusta, Ga., where she will be joined by a friend for a weekend visit in Charleston. MR. AND MRS. C. V. PIERCE and two children, Nonnie and Summer, of Columbia, spent the weekend with Mrs. Pierce’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Summer on College street extension. Non nie and Summer remained for a couple of week’s visit with their grandparents. MR. AND MRS. GEORGE R. SUMMER and children, Buddy and Tony, will leave Saturday for Pensacola, Florida where,they will F'riday for Montreat and other points of interest in the moun tains of North Carolina. MISS MARSHALL HOWARD director of religious education at Aveleigh Presbyterian church, is spending a two week’s vacation with her family in Mobile, Ala. MISS FRANCES JONES, of Columbia is visiting her sister, Mrs. H. B. Wilson and Mr. Wilson. MR. AND MRS. Newberry County Council received blue ribbon for the out standing work accomplished dur ing 1954-55. Along with this they also received a blue ribbon on the County Publicity scrapbook. Following the recognition of the Master Homemakers for 1955 an informal reception was held. Thruout the reception rooms were exhibits of unique arts and crafts throughout the state. FYom Newberry county- the following were exhibited: a refinished chair Mrs. A. N. Crosson, Sr.; a dried arrangement, Mrs. C. B. Parr, Sr.; a hand-painted figurine, Mrs B. O. Long; and an oil painting, Mrs. Byron Nichols. On Wednesday the meeting was centered around program of work for 1955-56. Workshops were held on the various phases of work. These included: agriculture, cit izenship, beautification, education, health, legislative, membership, music and recreation, internation al relations, publicity, religion and family li£| and 4-H club work. County Council Presidents alsp met by districts to make plans for annual District Meetings. The Piedmont District Meeting^will be held Saturday, September 10 at Gaffney. Groups were urged to make plans now to attend. Special emphasis was placed at the noon assembly Wednesday on the State Council’s International project Ceylon. A panel given on the country Ceylon by the Green wood Council of F’arm Women. UNNESCO certificates were aw arded councils for their partici pation. Newberry County Council raised $50 for this special project through the sale of UNESCO CLOVER LEAF DRIVE-IN stamps. During the program Thursday morning club project leaders were recognized for their outstanding work by Miss Juanita Neely, the State Home Demonstration agent.* Other highlights of the meeting included the following: reports by officers, reports on the nation al meeting, report of the progress of South Carolina Rural Libraries by Miss Estellene P. Walker, greetings from President Henry R. Sims, and address “We The People Speak’’ by Mrs George F Roberts, consultant.
