Quarterly Meet
The quarterly meeting of the
Philemon Waters chapter of the
Sons of the American Revolution
was held Monday evening, June
13th at the office of the president
Compatriot E. B. • Purcell. Hie
Chaplain Compatriot F. Scott El
liott, Jr., opened the meeting with
prayer.
After the reading of the min
utes by the Secretary, Professor
F. Scott Elliott, Sr., Compatriot
Seth A. Meek, vice president and
acting treasurer, gave his report,
and Compatriot Fred H. Dominick
a past president of the chapter,
spoke on various matters of in
terest.
Since June" 14th commemorated
the 178th Anniversary of the for
mal adoption of the U. S. flag.
Compatriot F. Scott Elliott, Sr.
brought to the group a message
appropriate to Flag Day.

Mrs. B. F. Goodwin of St. Aug-
gustine, Fla., is spending a while
with her sister, Mrs. T. S. Humph
ries on Cline street. Other visitors
over the weekend in the home of
Mrs. Humphries were Mr. and
Mrs. T. S. Humphries, Jr. and two
children, Jack and Jane of New
Kensington, Penn. They left Mon
day for a few days vacation at
Wrightsvflle Beach, N. .C., before
returning to their home in Penn-
syltania.
First Lt. Harry Dukes, Jr., who
spent the past 15 months on duty
in Korea, returned to the United
States by plane and arrived in
Newberry on June 6th to spend a
ten day leave with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dnkes. He
will leave Monday to enter Geor
gia Tech where he will take ' a
course in Textile Engineering. Lt.
Dukes plans to remain in the
army. He is a member of the
Army Quartermaster Corps.
Mrs. J. F. Riser and daughter.
Miss lEthel Riser of Sanford,
Florida, arrived in the city Mon
day . for a ten-day visit in the
home of Mrs. Riser’s sisters, Mrs.
M. L. Duckett and Mrs. L. W. Bed-

Mrs. Gurdon Counts and two
sons, Gurdon Wright and Rich
ard spent several days this week
in Lone Star with friends.
Mrs. Maude Waters is spending
a two weeks vacation in Wilming
ton, N. C. in the home of Mr. and

Fredericksburg, Va., are visiting

Rites At Rosemont
Willie H. Gilliam, who lived on
route one, Newberry died Sun
day night at the county hospital.
He was 69 and had been in poor
health for a decade.

SCHEDULE FOR POLIO SHOTS
The Newberry county health
department has received a supply
of anti-polk) vaccine for the 2nd
doses for first and second grade
children in the county that have
already received one shot.
Plans are being made for clin
ics to be set up at the same
points where these shots were re
ceived before. Transportation to
these clinics presents a problem
—however, through cooperation
of the county board of Fklucaition
ther j will be a bus in each sec
tion to pick up children ft carry
them to the clinics. If there is
anyone who will voluntarily of
fer his help in transporting these
ftchildren ft will be greatly ap
preciated. }
