The South Carolina State Employment Service Is one of the major cooperating agencies promoting the full employment of persons with physical Impair ments. ( / At the end of August, the New berry office of the South Carolina State Employment Service had In their active flies the applications of 27 workers with physical band! caps. These workers are normal men and women who. If properly placed on jobs they are able to perform, can compete successful ly with non-handicapped workers. The promotion of work oppor tunities for 'the physically handi capped is not a one week affair. The South Carolina State Employ ment Service gives year-round preference in placing physically handicapped workers in suitable Jobs. Recently, the Department of La bor and the Veterans* Administra tion* conducted a survey of 11,000 Gaillard, one lot 200’x200’ on Lake disabled workers against 18,000 non-disabled workers performing identical tasks in more than' 100 plants. The survey showed that Impaired workers, as 'a group, pro duced at slightly higher rates than unimpaired workers. Six Woods Fires In Three Months There has been six wood fires in Newberry County since July 1st according to Marion E. Wilson, County Ranger for the South Caro lina State Commission of Forestry of Newberry County.
