Among the invited guest were the battery officers and the staff warrant officers of the 228th AAA Gp. Those attending had their choice of fried chicken, fried shrimp or grilled steak which was tempting ly served in one of the party rooms at the NCO Open Mess. He was a World War II veteran, hav ing served In the Air Force, a member of American Legion Post No. 24 of Newberry, a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Pomaria, and an Airman 3rd Class Flight C, 9984th Air Force Sqdn., Reserve unit of the Air Force As sociation of South Carolina. , He was a son of the late John Pineywoods Lutheran Church * by ! Anthony Williams, Sr., and Annie Mae Bedeubaugh. His father died several years ago and his mother died last spririg. Survivors include three uncles, W. L. Bedenbaugh of Nlnty Six, Dr. A. J. Avalanche of Action on the most treacherous glacier in the worldl ‘Film Preview Party’ For County Teachers FTiday afternoon, July 30, the fciaas in Elementary Methods and Materials, taught by Miss Violet ILeetor of the Newberry College Summer School Faculty, sponsored a “film pre-view party” which was held in Holland Hall. There were approximately one hundred teach ers of Npwberry County and other guests present for the occassion. Miss Lester brought greetings to the group and introduced C. A. Kaufmann, acting president of Newberry College. Superintendent of the Newberry Goonty Schools, P. K. Harmon, epoke to the teachers and othei* guests about the use of film •trips and urged their use in the •classroom. R. E. Beck, superinten- i-dent of the Newberry Elementary schools, also spoke on audio-visual aids in teaching. Mrs. Sadie D. Flowers, a repre sentative of the National Film Service, National School Supply Co., Inc., of Raleigh, N. C., dem onstrated and explained the use of film strips in the classroom. After a social hour when re freshments were served by the Education class, film strips. were shown to interested groups of teachers in several of the class rooms. Accident Near Prosperity Is Fatal To One One Negro was killed and four others were injured when a Hud son automobile they were riding in left the highway and overturn ed two miles below Prosperity about midnight last Friday. The accident occurred on the Columbia - Greenville Highway, Highway Patrolman W. J. Martin and Deputy Sheriff J. C. Neel said. Coroner George R. Summer listed the dead as Wiley Lee Shealy, 17, of Prosperity. The in jured were Thomas B. Wise, owner and driver of the car; brok en leg, cuts and bruises; Claude Swittenburg, Brpadus Sims and Sammy Smith, passengers, treated for minor injuries at Newberry Hospital. All involved are betvreen 16 and 22 years old. Another youth in the car was unhurt. The officers said the car went out of control shortly after pass ing over railroad tracks below Prosperity and overturned on the side of the highway.
