A. Boylston and small son, Jimmy. Mr. and Mrs. Guy V. Whitener. Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Tate and daughter, Melody of Clemson, and Mrs. Guy Whitener, Jr., and daugh ter, Stewart, left Sunday for the Isle of Palms where they will spend the summer months at the Whitener’s summer home. Mr. and Mrs. “Red” Dwyer and son, Mike, will join them Friday of this week to spend the summer there. Miss Brantley Pelham of Co lumbia, spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. W. E. Pelham on Harrington street, and also attend ed her class reunion at Newberry College. Prof. Arthur Eargle, a member of the Evans, Ga. school faculty for the 1953-54 school session, with Mrs. Eargle have returned to their home on Summer street for the sumimer months. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Bradley of Clinton Forge, Va., spent several days last w r eek with Mrs. Bradley’s two sisters, Mrs. J. B. Coward and Mr. Coward and Mrs. Robert Long and MY. Long in Newiberry. Kenneth Stokes has returned to his home on Harrington street to spend the summer months with his ■mother, Mrs. Julia W. Stokes, af ter completing his freshman year at the University of South Caro lina in the School of Pharmacy. Mrs. Kenneth Mims and son, Da vid of Sumter, spent several days last week in the home of Mrs. Mims’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Campbell on Harrington street. She also attended the graduating exercises at Newberry High school last Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Campbell and three sons, Billy, Joe and John, of Spartanburg, attended the high school graduating exercises last Tuesday night. They were also sup per guests in the home of Mr. Campbell’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Campbell on Harrington street. Mrs. D. Ek Halfacre of the St. Phillips community was joined by her two brothers, J. R. and G. A. Mcllwain of Due West and also her sister, Mrs. W. C. Baldwin of Clinton, and they spent Sunday in Columbia with their brother-in- law, H. M. Halfacre at State Park. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Hawkins of Prosperity and Mrs. Edwin Zeig- ler of Lone Star, were visitors on Sunday afternoon in the home of Mrs. L. W. Bedenbaugh and Mrs. M. L. Duckett on Fair street. Dr. J. Lewis Asbill of Towson, Md., visited friends in Newberry over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Davis have returned to their home on Caldwell street after a two week’s visit in Stamford, Conn., with their son-in- law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gates Beckwith and two sons, Tom and Kirkman Davis. Mrs. Woodrow Hassell and chil dren of Columbia, are now spend ing a couple of * weeks with her mother. Mrs. H. B. Senn on Har per street. Miss Lucy IVfcCaughrin left Tues day for Spartanburg to visit her neice, Mrs. Ben Pickens and fam ily. Mrs. T. P. Johnson and daugh ter, Miss Tommie Johnson are spending this w r eek at Myrtle Beach with Mrs. Johnson’s sisters, Mrs. Bennett of Lancaster and Mrs. Nivens of Monroe, N. C. Mrs. A. T. Neely left Wednes day for Rock Hill where she will visit her sister-in-law, Mrs. “Wit” Kitchens for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Reid of Fredricksburg, Va., are spending several days with Mrs. Reid’s sis ter, Mrs. Wilson Brown and Mr. Brown on Johnstone street. Mrs. Robert Starling of Spartan burg, is spending this week with her niece. Miss Theresa lightsey on Main street. She also attend ed the Newberry College com mencement exercises at which time her daughter, Miss Suzanne Starling graduated. Mrs. James M. Smith, Sr., is spending this week in Greenville with her sister. Mrs. Hugh K. Boycf left Wednes day for Washington, D. C., with her son and daughter-in-law, Major and Mrs. Hugh K. Boyd, Jr., and family, to make her home for the present. Major Boyd has been as signed to Washington where he will be stationed. Mr. and Mrs. Ben F. Dawkins, Jr. and family of Columbia, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Dawkins and family of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. H. F. Hunt of Greenville and her husband, Mr. Hunt who is station ed at Fort Benning, Ga., as a mem ber of the armed forces, spent the weekend in the home of their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben F. Daw kins on Nance street. Mrs. F. B. Dawkins was called to Saluda Monday on account of the serious illness of her mother, Mrs. Long. Miss Eleanor Tapp of Sanford, N. C., and Mississippi, is expected to spend the weekend with Miss Elizabeth Boylston on Harrington street. They plan to spend next week at Myrtle Beach on a house party. W. A. Mason, Jr., attended his 30th class reunion at Clemson College Sunday, June 6. Mrs. Oliver Holmes of Fayette ville, N. C.,' arrived in the city yesterday for a visit with her sis ters, Mrs. Butler Holmes and Mrs. Seth Meek at their home on Har rington street. Post Office To Undergo Repairs As Custodian of the Federal Post Office Building, Harry E. Moose, Acting Postmaster has an nounced that bids are now being invited from local contractors for minor repairs to the Federal Build ing including exterior repainting of all now painted windows, walls and roofing and repairs to a metal portion of the main roof. All local contractors desiring to bid on this work may obtain speci fications of the work to be done from the Postmaster, Mr. Moose said. Bids will be opened in At lanta, Ga. on June 24, 1954 in the office of the Deputy Regional Di rector, General Service Admini stration and award of contract will be made by that office.
