Cuess, III, President of the South Carolina Guernsey Cattle Clu-b, has announced that the South Carolina Guernsey Cattle Club will hold the first of its annual Guernsey heifer sales at 12:30 p.m.. May 4th at the S. C. State Fairgrounds in Columbia. In making this announcement Mr, Guess stated that the South Caro lina Guernsey Cattle Club has held an annual sale each year, consist ing of cows and heifers, for 30 years, but that this is the first sale consisting of only heifers. The purpose of the South Caro lina Guernsey Cattle Club hold ing this sale is to raise additional revenue to help in promoting the dairy industry in South Carolina The revenue raised from this sale will be used in carrying out the projects of the South Carolina Guernsey Cattle Club; these pro jects being: 1. Encourage the farm youth, members of 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America, to have dairy calves as, their project. The South Carolina Guernsey Cat tle Club offers cash awards for outstanding work done in raising and showing these calves. 2. Pro- I mote showing of dairy cattle at I local and State Fairs. 3. Awarding I trophies for outstanding milk pro duction records. 4. Promoting the sale of miFk from these cattle This being the breed of cattle that produce that world famous “Gold en Guernsey Milk.” Mr. Guess stated that the top Guernsey breeders in the State have consigned cattle to be sold in the sale. Only South Carolina breeders are permitted to con sign cattle to the sale. Those con signing, cattle to the sale include: J. B. In addition to being President of the South Carolina Guernsey Cat tle Club, Mr. Guess is also Chair man of the sale committee, and would like to extend an invitation to the public to visit the fair grounds and see this top group of Guernsey heifers and also to at tend the sale on May 4th. The cat tle will be at the fairgrounds from 4:00 p.m. on May 3rd until after the sale on the 4th. Clark son, 2021 Harrington St., is en rolled as a resident student at the Katherine Gibbs school, N. Y., where she will begin he work July sixth. Miss Clarkson was gradu ated from Newberry High School in 1952 and has attended Stratford College and Mars Hill College.
